Synopsis

There are three things you should know about Quinn Sullivan: 1) He is madly in love with Janie Morris, 2) He’s not above playing dirty to get what (or who) he wants, and 3) He doesn’t know how to knit.

After just five months of dating Janie, Quinn—former Wendell and unapologetic autocrat—is ready to propose marriage. In fact, he’s more than ready. If it were up to Quinn, he would efficiently propose, marry, and beget Janie with child all in the same day—thereby avoiding the drama and angst that accompanies the four stages of pre-matrimony: engagement, meeting the parents, bachelor/bachelorette party, and overblown, superfluous wedding day traditions. But Janie, much to Quinn’s dismay, tosses a wrench in his efficacious endeavors and challenges him to prove his devotion by going through the matrimonial motions, no matter how minute and mundane.

Will Quinn last until the wedding day? Or will he yield to his tyrant impulses?

Regardless, one thing is for certain, Quinn Sullivan will have to learn to expect the Spanish Inquisition (i.e. the unexpected) if he plans to have and keep Janie Morris as his wife.

This book is not a standalone. It is the sequel to ‘Neanderthal Seeks Human,’ it is book #1.5 in the ‘Knitting in the City’ series, and it is a full length, 100k word novel.

Again, you must read ‘Neanderthal Seeks Human’ first before reading this book.

This book is written in first person, alternating POV (Janie Morris AND Quinn Sullivan; but more Janie than Quinn).

Review

” Admittedly, I’d never successfully navigated the labyrinth know as the labia, never mind the confounding clitoris.”

It should be no secret by now that I am a mega fan of all of Penny Reid’s books. I have read and loved them all. They are the kind of books you can read over and over again and you will always find something new and hilarious. Her material never seems to get old or outdated because what it all boils down to is something timeless, relationships. Relationships amongst friends, co-workers and lovers. These are topics that will always be exciting and Penny Reid is one of the best romance writers at giving you a witty insight into the minds of those in these crazy relationships.

“Wait . . . that sounded bad.” “You drive me crazy.” He said, then added, “In the best possible way.”

Neanderthal Marries Human picks up shortly after where Neanderthal Seeks Human ended and revolves in a close time period around when Friends Without Benefits took place. Quinn is ready to propose and marry Janie and their work trip to England lays the perfect backdrop for this. This book is full of proposal, wedding planning, and dealing with the kooky friends hilarity!  But there are still many tough unanswered questions that Janie and Quinn need to resolve before they can take this big jump. Can Quinn come clean about what it is he does?  Can Janie get past her relationship insecurities? And how much of a role will panty dance parties play in their lives.?

nmh1b

As much as I love Janie and Quinn the true stars of this and all the books is the knitting group. When these girls all get together I know I am going to have awful stomach cramps from laughing so hard. But more than just providing another form of humor the women in Janie’s life are an amazing support group and make me long for a close KNIT (lol) group of girls who I know will always have my back. Each of their personalities brings something amazing and unique to the story and I am desperate for more! (PENNY IF YOU ARE READING THIS REVIEW STOP – STOP RIGHT NOW – AND GO WRITE ME MORE LMAO.)

nmh30

This story, much like all of Penny’s, is a breath of fresh air. If you are looking for a book full of graphic sex that constantly pushing the vulgar boundaries than look elsewhere. But if you are looking for an extremely well written, witty, sensual without being graphic book full of amazingly crazy catchphrases and innuendos then this book might just be for you! I like to talk about how funny and witty Penny’s writing is because I know so many authors who write good angst and sex but not near as many who can write humor while staying on topic and deliver an amazing story full of love, drama and powerful relationships. These characters are ones you can relate to while also fantasize about. I mean Quinn . . . really! I need a Quinn! I want a Quinn! Someone please give me a Quinn! Once again I want to congratulate Penny on delivering an amazing book and I cannot wait to devour the next one!

“I love you Quinn Sullivan. You are precious to me and I will love you always. And if I die before you, I plan to haunt you.”

Synopsis

Dorothy Kelley is a born romantic, searching for her prince. Instead she finds herself pregnant at fifteen, and a in a loveless marriage by the tender age of eighteen.

Then hope comes riding into her life on a motorcycle and within weeks, Jason “Jase” Brady, a member of the Hell’s Horsemen motorcycle club, sweeps Dorothy off her feet.

But nothing is ever simple for Dorothy. Jase is married with children. And as Dorothy patiently waits for Jase to give her the happily-ever-after she’s been dreaming about, James “Hawk” Young, a member of the Hell’s Horsemen with secrets of his own, sees an opening into Dorothy’s life and takes it.

Carrying on two secret affairs is no easy feat. As Dorothy tries to dig herself out of the mess she’s created, covering one mistake with another, tragedy strikes, nearly costing Dorothy her life and that of her unborn son.

What follows is a long and painful journey of self-discovery and forgiveness, as Dorothy comes to realize that home was exactly where she’d left it, and the love she’d forever craved had always been within her reach.

This is the story of Dorothy, Jase, and Hawk.

We are all born pure; it is our journey that burdens us and leads us astray. Our mistakes that beat us down and cover us in guilt and shame, burying us a little more with each passing hardship. It is up to us to dig ourselves out, to come to terms with our faults, to embrace not only our imperfections but those of the ones we love, and to once again find the path we strayed from.

Warning: This is not a conventional or predictable love story. It involves one woman and two men bound by a love so destructive it spans two decades, pitting brother against brother, and shattering the lives of those touched by it.

Review

“I wanted butterflies, holding hands, stolen kisses in the backseat of a car, late-night phone calls, all of it.  The anxiety, the desperation, the beautiful, agonizing ache called love.”

Dorothy had fairy tale dreams.  Not the career or college bound kind of dreams, but happily-ever-after dreams.  Things didn’t go that way for Dorothy.  What she got was an unplanned pregnancy, a loveless marriage, and the love of two hell raising motorcycle men, Jase and Hawk.

Unbeloved is their story and it is the fourth book of the Undeniable Series by Madeline Sheehan.

10491231_10154300424480414_7656850090400949858_n

I should start by saying that no one, and I mean NO ONE, writes a prologue like Madeline Sheehan.  There are a ton of authors out there that write beautiful epilogues but it is a rare find when an author steals your heart the moment you open their book.  Madeline does that.  Unbeloved is no different and although I met Dorothy, Jase, and Hawk in the previous Undeniable books, I was not at all prepared for way they affected me so deeply.  I loved them.  I hated them.  I loved to hate them.  I knew I was going to love this book.  I knew sixty year old Deuce was still going to be a grouchy old asshole.

“Why are you bringin’ this shit up now?  You want me to suck your dick or somethin’?”

I knew Cox and Kami were going to make me blush and giggle.  I knew Teagan was still going to be a raving bitch.  I knew Dorothy was going to break my heart.  I just didn’t know that I was going to love Jase and Hawk.  That really surprised the hell out of me, especially since I couldn’t stand Jase before I started this book.  Learning about these beautifully flawed men changed my whole perception of them.

“Moments.”

I wasn’t prepared to love them both.  I felt like Dorothy; confused and unsure of who to pick but I knew in my heart who she belonged with, just as she did.

“I’d had that with both Jase and Hawk.  But there was only one who could steal your soul, that untouchable, unreachable place inside you that existed only in your mind, that warmed and cooled, fluttered and shook without rhyme or reason, and make it theirs forever.”

Their story is a long hard one and I was literally sobbing; crying into my kindle, wanting a happily-ever-after for them all.  I wanted Dorothy to finally have what she so deserved after so long; the love of a man completely devoted to only her.  It seemed that nothing was ever easy for her.  How long should one poor woman have to suffer; her whole life seeming nothing but a series of endless mistakes?

“Ain’t no such thing as mistakes,” he said.  “There’s only shit that happens and shit that don’t.”

The chemistry between Dorothy and Jase and Dorothy and Hawk is undeniable (like I how I did that :)).  I found the sex scenes in this book less gritty and raw and more tender and loving.  In general, Madeline never puts sex scenes in her books just for the sake of sex.  They are masterfully placed in her books to evoke strong emotions and the scenes in Unbeloved nearly undid me.  They were so incredibly meaningful and loving.

10434054_10154300424210414_4141731170629194417_n

I,  never, ever do spoilers but I will tell you this; you will get your happily-ever-after.  It will leave you a big old snotty blubbering mess.  I thought the ending was perfect.  Everyone was where they should be after a long and lonely road.  (Big sigh)

10444610_10154300424780414_1339672431353212900_n

The Undeniable Series just keeps getting better and better.  With every book I feel closer and closer to these amazing characters that toe the line between good and evil so closely.  Madeline has a brilliant way of making you love people who are not necessarily good people.  This is probably why I consider her the Queen of MC; the ultimate motorcycle club author.  I cannot wait to find out what happens next.

“I will wait for fucking ever,”

Review

“God, Ceci . . . your body . . . I can’t ever get enough.”

The Intern: Vol. 2 is the second book in a super steamy serial by Brooke Cumberland and WOW was it HOT! I quickly fell in love with this story and these characters when I read Vol. 1 and have been dying to get my hands onto Vol. 2. I knew this was going to be good but what Brooke wrote completely blew my expectations away.

“Don’t let one mistake keep you from taking on the world.”

The Intern: Vol. 2 picks up right where the first one left off and we are able to see that Bentley is aware that Ceci is hiding something and although he fears that it the worst his desire and pull toward her has him hoping for the best and believing her lies. Lies I might say roll super easy off her tongue. I will say that when Bentley gets mad he get aggressive and forceful and that is HOT! I mean have some clean panties nearby HOT!

“I love it when you say my name, Ceci,” I growl against her ear. “Drives. Me. Fucking. Insane.”

There is something about a forbidden romance that gets me all kinds of excited and the boss / intern one definitely falls into that category. Now I have no problem with the high school student / older man forbidden romance but something about the fact that he does not know how old she really is has me on the edge of my seat waiting for it to blow up. All of Cece’s secrets and lies are eventually going to come out and when that happen it is going to be EPIC! I hope the chemistry and the strong feelings these two have is enough to get them through the tough times when the truth all comes out.

“I’m losing myself in her, in us. The doubt, fear, and suspicion all take a back seat.”

While the story in this serial is what draws me in and brings me back desperately needing more, I will say that the sex is fucking amazing. Bentley is just the right mix of controlling and forceful while still being caring and loving to Ceci. What clearly started as some a steamy secretive office fling is clearly quickly becoming so much more. You can see their feeling for each other deepen with each page and the more they fall for each other the hotter the book seems to get.

“My heart bleeds in remorse because I know I’m deceiving him – every part of me screams to just tell him the truth and beg for him to forgive me, yet my heart fights to protect him. I’ll be crushed if he lets go of me completely, but he’ll be devastated by the secrets and lies.”

Brooke has once again done an amazing job of writing a captivating story that quickly drew me in and left me desperately needing more. OMG I need to know how this story ends and I can promise you the minute Vol. 3 shows up on my kindle I will be dropping all my real world responsibilities in order to find out how the story ends for these two characters that I have quickly become very attached to!

Excerpt

The entire back counter had an array of tools—hammers, saws, screwdrivers, and tools she didn’t know the name of. This was where Seth would be constructing the set pieces. These must be his tools. He’d touched these tools, used them.

She put her hand out and brushed the items as she walked along the counter, enjoying the rush that came from knowing they belonged to the sexy carpenter. Images of him using them filled her mind, turning her entire body to warm mush.

She let her hand settle on an electric drill. It felt strange in her grasp, not an item she’d ever find herself in contact with. She wasn’t even sure she knew how to use one. It was perfect—an unexpected prop and one that a writer could have a lot of fun with.

But she couldn’t take it…could she?

She heard voices from the stage and could tell the group was gathering. The intros were about to start. She had no time. She glanced around to see if she had any other options and spotted an older, more worn drill on the counter. Black sharpie marked it as “Property of Broad Stage”. This drill was better. Bigger and more awkward, but she’d feel less guilty about borrowing it. Without another thought, she picked up the old drill and began wrapping the cord around its body.

“Did you get lost?”

She spun around at the sound of the familiar voice—the voice that made her slippery in her silk panties—and clutched the drill behind her back.

Seth stood in the doorway, one arm propped against the frame, his blue eyes freezing her to her spot. He wore a plain burgundy T-shirt and carpenter jeans.  She hadn’t imagined the intensity of her attraction to him—it was real. Just looking at him now made her chest tight and her lungs struggle for air.

Realizing he’d nearly caught her in the act of “borrowing” a tool, she threw her shoulders back and put on her best innocent look. “No, I was…just…trying to find some place I could be alone.” She could feel her eyelashes fluttering as she spoke, as if they had a mind of their own. Whether they were trying to hide her guilt or flirting, she wasn’t sure.

God, she was pathetic.

Seth narrowed his eyes and approached her with long slow steps, each making her heart beat faster. “There are lots of places in the theater to be alone. This isn’t one of them.”

It certainly wasn’t. Though she was alone with him. His words pretty much acknowledging that fact made her lightheaded.

He kept coming toward her until he was right beside her. “Aren’t you supposed to be at the cast Meet and Greet?”

“Aren’t you supposed to be there?”

“I’ll get there eventually.” He leaned against the counter and gestured at her with a nod. “Whatcha got behind your back?”

His scent, a mixture of soap and sweat and cedar, wafted from his skin, making her weak in the knees. “Nothing.” Yeah, that didn’t sound childish. “I mean, none of your business.” Oh, much better.

Why did speaking to Seth always get her so flustered? He wasn’t supposed to talk to her, anyway. It was a rule all the crew was given—only talk to the actors when necessary for the show. That was the assurance given to protect the stars’ privacy. She clutched onto that rule now like a life vest. “You aren’t supposed to talk to me.”

“Whoops.”

Obviously, Seth didn’t care too much about following rules.

And if he was going to be that way, she wasn’t going to feel bad about borrowing a drill. She just had to figure how to get out of there with it. Glancing around, she spotted another exit just behind her. If she walked backwards, she could make it to that door without him spotting the drill. She had to try.

“Well, since I’m essential out there, I better go.” She took one cautious step away from him.

“You mean as opposed to me being unessential.”

She hadn’t meant for that to sound so snotty. “No.” But it was true. The Meet and Greet was about the actors. The set was completely unnecessary. “Well, yes. But…”

“Don’t fret it, princess. I knew what you meant.”

His tone reaffirmed that he’d already made up his mind about her. He thought she was stuck-up, and wasn’t she? But he didn’t have to parade his disgust for her. “Whatever.”

She took another couple of steps backward, but the cord slipped from where she’d wrapped it around the drill. Before she realized it, the heel of her sandal caught on it, throwing her off balance. She cast out her arms, trying to stop her momentum, but she only managed to postpone the inevitable fall.

Thankfully her plummet was stopped by strong, fast arms that circled around her waist in a firm grasp.

“Whoa.” Seth held her, his face inches from hers, concern in his eyes mixed with something else. Desire? “You okay?”

She stared into his face, at his lips so close she could kiss them if she lifted her head. She wanted to lift her head. So bad. “I’m okay.” Her voice was a whisper. “I just tripped.”

His eyes scanned her face, lingering on her mouth. Then moved lower to her breast line. She felt her skin warm and redden under his gaze. When his stare found its way back to hers, he unwrapped an arm from her waist and brought it between them.

She tensed, waiting for his touch. Longing for his touch. Would his hand trail up her arm? Or caress her cheek? Or, though highly inappropriate, brush her breast? She let out a shaky breath at the thought.

But the touch she longed for didn’t come in any form. Instead, he pulled the tool she still clutched from her grasp and curled his lip. “If you needed a drill, princess, all you had to do was ask.”

Disappointed and embarrassed, she pushed out of his arms. “Don’t call me that.”

“Do you need a screw as well?”

“Stop it, okay.” It surprised her how near tears she was. “I needed a prop. Are you happy? I knocked over my purse in the car and my handcuffs must have fallen out and my assistant is clear out in Bel Air picking up my birth control and she won’t be back in time for the Meet and Greet, even if I manage to go last and I was desperate so I came in here to look for something I could use and this was the first thing I found.” Her words tumbled out in a rush.

He chuckled in a way that both irritated and excited her. “Handcuffs? Birth control?”

Her face warmed from equal parts frustration and humiliation. “Can I just…can I use it?”

“Can you use what?”

“The drill, Seth.”

“Of course. I told you all you had to do was ask.” His eyes sparkled with amusement. “But here—” He exchanged the theater’s drill for his own still on the counter. “Take mine instead. No one will know who it really belonged to or that you came unprepared. Now, wasn’t it a good thing that I was around?”

He held out the drill to her and she took it, brushing his fingertips as she did. The touch shot a surge of electricity through her body. Still, she said, “This doesn’t make us friends.”

His hand sprang out and grabbed her arm just below her elbow. “Do you really think I want to be friends?”

Confused by the roughness of the action and the delight of his fingers on her bare skin, she didn’t know if she should pull away or lean in farther. “I…I don’t know what you want,” she managed to stammer, realizing she didn’t know what she wanted either.

His grasp softened slightly and he drew her closer. For the second time that night, she thought—no, wished—he would kiss her. Instead, when his head bent toward her, it stopped near her ear. “Isn’t it too bad that you won’t let yourself find out?”

His husky whisper sent a serious shiver through her body. For one minute she believed she could let herself find out. That she could forget her past and everything that Seth represented to her. That she could fall into his arms and let his mouth and body erase every bad memory and association she had with people who performed manual labor for a living.

But she’d spent too many years believing just the opposite. The walls she’d have to break down to let someone like Seth in were pretty sturdy.

When she spoke, her voice didn’t sound like her own. The tone was meek and unsure and breathy. “I have to go.”

“Yes, you do.”

He released her and she turned and walked away on unsteady legs. And just like when she’d left her trailer house at sixteen, she didn’t look back.

He was like her past. She didn’t need him. She didn’t want him.

This time, though, the effort to not look was excruciating.

Review

This is book 2 in the lights, camera series. It follows Hollywood actress Heather and Production Designer Seth. Heather is the a list celebrity who plays the diva role very well, she uses this as a barrier from interacting and getting close to other people, she also doesn’t like to interact with people that have jobs that are lower than hers. Seth having been burnt in the past doesn’t have time for people who think that they are better than others. So the attraction between Seth “the carpenter” and Heather “the princess” doesn’t make much sense, but they have off the chart chemistry if they just look past this.

Heather and Seth are both attending a meeting for a great cause, flirting happens between them until Heather believes that Seth is just a carpenter and then she turns ice cold and diva like towards him. She is rude to him, but he dishes it back out. Seth doesn’t come across as one to accept being spoken to or treated as though he is less than he is. “Prepared for her or not, Seth Rafferty was star struck.”

A wrap party leads to more than just flirting between Heather and Seth, but Heather passing out puts a slight dampener on the evening for Seth. He leaves her his number, but as he expected she doesn’t call. Skipping a few weeks they meet again on the set of another movie. Seth is there because he can’t stop thinking about Heather. Heather likes that he is there, although she still isn’t able to look beyond her past and let her barriers down for Seth. Having a troubled childhood Heather had things drilled into her that still she believes even with all she has accomplished. Therefore Seth being a carpenter doesn’t fit her ideal. “Trash breeds trash, baby doll. That’s all you’ve ever been, that’s all you’ll ever be.”

Seth and Heather get much closer once he finds out a little about her past when her dad turns up unexpectedly. They are a couple behind closed doors, they are trying to navigate the celebrity, getting to know each other without taking their clothes off and Seth is still not telling her the complete truth.

We all know secrets don’t stay that way for long, once Heather finds out about Seth’s betrayal she closes herself off. She wants nothing more to do with him. “I gave you all of me. I made myself vulnerable. For you. And you lied to me.” You understand the reason behind him not telling her, but you can understand her hesitation as to what to do. You can tell that they both love each other but the hurt is there.

I loved the story of Seth and Heather, there was some rather hot scenes in the book, but there was also lovely and sweet scenes. Well done Laurelin Paige on another fantastic read.

Blurb:

Rivers Young was the popular guy untouchable by reality. He was like a star—bright, consuming, otherworldly. The thing about stars, though, is that they eventually fall, and Rivers Young was no different.

He fell far and he fell hard.

Delilah Bana was the outcast enshrouded in all of life’s ironies. Alone, in the dark, like dusk as it falls on the world. When Rivers fell from the sky, she was the night that caught him. In the darkness, they found one another. Together they melded into something beautiful that shone like the sun.

Only, the greater the star is, the shorter its lifespan.
