Review

The Chase is my very first Jessica Wood book and I thoroughly enjoyed it.  It seems like tons and tons of authors are writing these sexy little serials right now but I am loving them.  They are quick, easy, super sexy reads and I just cannot seem to get enough of them.

Dean Chase is a womanising  lawyer.  He is good looking and he knows it.  Cocky doesn’t even begin to describe his level of conceit.

“If it’s any consolation, that was a great fucking one-night stand.”

He always gets his woman.  Women are his life outside of work.  One after the other.

“And yes, I do think about pussy a lot.  It’s my hobby and I’m motherfucking passionate about my hobbies.”

Dean keeps running into one woman who will not give him the time of day; Blair.  Blair is no fool.  She is onto Mr. Chase’s playboy ways and is having none of it!

I really really enjoyed the bantering back and forth between these two.  Blair really holds her own against Dean and her smart mouth and quick wit made LOL quite a few times.  Dean came off kind of douchey in the beginning but I really feel like he redeemed himself.  The sexual tension leading up to the steamy sex scene was really phenomenal.  Overall I really enjoyed this short novella and I cannot wait to see what happens in the next one after that bomb was dropped at the end of The Chase.

Synopsis

Review

I thought that this first book in the Just Sat Yes Series, was pretty darn good. Zoey is trying to get herself back on track, after a rough childhood and adolescence, but still suffers from nightmares and insomnia. Her family and friends are trying to help her move on from her depression, but nothing helps, nothing that is until Andy Tate moves to town and shakes up her life.

“Holy shit, he is sexy. Had a gorgeous golden skin, amazing blue eyes, and he wore his short, dark blond hair a little longer on the top. He was tall, too, at least six foot two or three. And the beard! Oh my. We, it wasn’t really a beard, but more like a sexy stublle that was just long enough to be soft.”

In this very realistic portrayal of a budding romance, I love the way the author leaves little morsels of foreshadowing throughout the book. Did I mention this is the first in the series? Be prepared to want to find the next book immediately. Zoey is just about to breakthrough to peace and happiness when the book abruptly ends.

Intermingled throughout the story is the ex-husband Rob, who is constantly antagonizing Zoey and Andy.

“Zoey, you really don’t see how beautiful you are, inside and out. Look at everything you’ve done for me, without even knowing me. Who does that? You are a smart, sexy as hell, and you need to try to realize it. Stop letting that asshole bring you down.”

Finally, we find Zoey realizes she has a great man, a great life and then we are left hanging when the author ends with a bomb!

“My walls were down, I was tired of being weak, and tired of being alone. The perfect man was right there with me, and I was being a complete idiot by pushing him away, Right then, I knew without a doubt, I was falling in love with him. I wanted to tell him, but I was terrified.”

I really enjoyed this book. It was a quick easy read with tons of chemistry between Andy and Zoey. I most definitely will read more of the series and this author!

“You’re holding my heart as well as my flesh.”

There has yet to be a time when I have been disappointed in reading a book by Pepper Winters and Twisted Together is absolutely no different. Ms Winters has written a prefect conclusion to this dark and twisted tale. We have all been on this emotional and gut-wrenching journey with Tess and Q so to see them finally get their Happily Ever After is so completely satisfying. This book had me in a wide range of emotions and sitting on the edge of my seat wondering just how Pepper could take these broken people and give them the HEA they so truly deserved.

“What Truth? I didn’t know what to believe anymore. Was my mind so twisted the truth was only visible in my sleep?”

Poor Tess. I cannot even imagine going through everything she has and even being willing to wake up everyday. To say her mind was fucked up would be the understatement of the year. After being kidnapped twice, rapped, tortured and forced to do things no one should there was just no room left in her head for sanity. For a good portion of this book I was worried that the strong and independent Tess that craved to be loved the way that only Q could love her was gone. After everything that had gone down she was changed and part of that might never come back. You cannot go through everything she has and come out of it the same person you were going in. But seeing Q’s pure love for her and the fact that he was determined to bring her back from the mind hell she was in was a treat to read. I absolutely love when strong men put the needs of the women they love first and above all else.  Even when Tess is weak she is strong in her weakness. She couldn’t hide the severe depression she was in but she would constantly lie about how bad it was and ever time Q could see right through it. The back and forth of this squeezed my heart and made it hard to breathe. Watching how much it hurt Q every time she lied to him and seeing how much lying to him hurt her was so hard to read but the fact that even through all of this he never would give up on her just shows you the depth of his love for her.

“I’m taking you on that date, esclave. Our very first one, and I expect to get to second base.” “You’re already at second base.” “So I am.”

The best part of this book, if not the whole series, was seeing how both Q and Tess really came into their own when they were with each other. Not only was Q a dominate that could rival any other but he wasn’t afraid to show his somewhat more tender and loving side when it came to Tess. Their relationship is honestly unlike any I have ever encountered and I love that I never know what to expect between them. Boundaries are constantly being pushed and some even completely torn down. Pepper Winters has a way of writing that wraps me up so completely that things I never believe could be sexy or endearing come across as just that. Ideas that in the past might have made my skin crawl somehow come across as not only reasonable but intriguing and to me that is a sign of a fantastic writer. To take something that is just not my personal thing and open my mind to it takes complete skill and that is exactly what Pepper has done not only with Twisted Together but with the entire Monsters in The Dark series.

“Time was a fickle bitch.” 

I’m not going to lie to you this book is dark and much like the title twisted. But if you have already made it through the first two books (which you must first read before starting this one) then this is no surprise and you know to constantly expect the unexpected. Once again this book is jam packed with events that I never would have thought could happen and I loved every moment of it. Tears of Tess was the first “dark” book I ever read. I was encouraged to give it a try by some good friends who never have lead me wrong and I completely fell in love with these somewhat mess up cast of characters. I feel like I have been on a personal journey with them. A great journey, but not necessarily a fun one and to finally have an end feels like I have accomplished something. This is a series that will always stick with me and hold a special place in my heart.

Ok, wow!  This is the first Inez Kelley book that I have had the pleasure of reading.  It blew me away.  I am huge fan of paranormal and this was totally different than any other paranormal book I have read.  I absolutely loved it.

Vike is a Forsaken.  The Foresaken are a group of mortals from history best remembered for their evil deeds.  Sela (a kick ass angel) awakens this group of evil doers, essentially giving them a second chance; asking them to fight Samuel and his evil minions on earth in a holy war.  These are real people from history brought back to life to fight evil for heaven.  No vampires or werewolves or any of the usual paranormal beings, but the Forsaken do have special abilities and it is super hard to kill them.  There was once a good many Forsaken but now there are only six left.  This first book, The Bastard, is about one of those six, Vike.

Vike is a ruthless viking, known in history for murdering his own brothers.  He is one of the older Forsaken, and has been made hard and unemotional by life’s brutalities, but once he lays eyes on Lacy, he knows he will risk everything to save her.  He wants her for his own.

“We might be strangers, but by morning, we’d know each other damned well”

Lacy has no clue she is the descendant of an ancient holy line and that Samuel is after her.   She knows that Vike is there to protect her but she doesn’t know who he is or what he has done.  She wants to trust him with her life and her heart, but with danger coming from all directions she has no clue who to trust.

This book really ticked all my boxes.  It was funny, romantic, and sensual.  The Forsaken really were hilarious when they interacted with each other;  often picking on one another and giving each other a hard time.

“Pancakes?” 

“You’re watching the cook because you like her pancakes?  Is that a euphemism for tits and ass?”

They had me laughing out loud with their brotherly banter.  These guys are the perfect combination of good and evil.  Totally sexy and naughty while carrying out heavens orders.  I really enjoyed Lacy and Vike’s story and I also loved getting to know all these dark and dangerous characters. I know that these books will only get better.  Personally, I cannot wait for Zale’s book.  I think it is going to be crazy dark and sexy.

The Bastard was expertly written and so very different from other paranormal books I have read.  If you like JR Wards Black Dagger Brotherhood Series or Lords of the Underworld Series by Gena Showalter, you will love The Bastard.
