Author: Beth Bolden

Genre: Romantic Comedy

Publication Date: April 30, 2014

Event Organized By: Literati Author Services, Inc.

Synopsis

IT ’S THE BOTTOM OF T HE NINTH . . .

Izzy Dalton’s about to strike out. Her new job as the sideline reporter for the Portland Pioneers major league baseball team is problematic on several levels:

  1. Baseball is her least-favorite sport. Falling behind golf, tennis, and maybe even curling.
  2. What Izzy knows about baseball could fill about three minutes of airtime.
  3. Her last experience in front of a camera was in college. Six years ago.
  4. The Pioneers’ second baseman has a wicked sense of humor and even wickeder blue eyes.

AND A FULL COUNT. . .

Jack Bennett couldn’t be more uninterested in a little sideline action. He just wants to show up at the park and win baseball games. Izzy is the one woman he should steer clear of, but she’s also the key to his success–and his heart, too.

All Izzy has to do is convince her misogynistic boss she’s competent, learn what the heck an RBI is, and stay away from Jack Bennett. Izzy tells herself it’ll be a snap, but 162 games is longer than she ever imagined and Jack more irresistible than she counted on.

Excerpt

“Izzy Dalton reporting from Sarasota Florida, at the Portland Pioneers Spring Training facility. I’m here with Noah Fox, starting center fielder for the Pioneers, and Jack Bennett, starting second baseman. Thanks for joining me today.”

Jack had to give Izzy credit for how bravely she faced the camera, especially since he’d discovered she’d never done much on-camera work. The first hundred or so times that he’d come face-to-face with a camera, he’d froze, which pretty much explained all those inane interviews that he’d given. When you had no idea what to say, sometimes the worst possible bullshit came out of your mouth.

“Welcome to the Pioneers, Izzy.” Noah smiled, ladling the charm on thick, and Jack resisted the urge to elbow him hard in the ribs.

Her first few questions were all to Noah—about his College World Series title, how he felt about the upcoming season. Izzy was pretty stiff, but Foxy seemed to settle her down after a few minutes.

He’d expected her to take her time with Noah. After all, he was a great interview; he acted like he actually wanted to be here. It wasn’t any big surprise that Toby would pick Foxy for Izzy to break her teeth on. Instead, she switched her attention to him after only three questions, her focus narrowing in on him until he felt like the entire world was going to see him perspiring—every glorious bead of sweat in high definition.

“Jack,” she said coolly, though by this point he’d figured the wintry act was all a big lie. She wasn’t cold; inside, she was a volcano, and because he was inevitably masochistic, he wanted all that icy self possession to melt away. “What’s your goal for this team?”

“Hell, we’d love to have made the playoffs last year, me more than anyone,” he admitted, and for the first time, he could think about the collapse last year without his vision going all red and blurry with rage, “but good things are worth the wait. This year, we’re not only going to make the playoffs, we’re going to the World Series.” He paused, and was so strangely, innately comfortable, he couldn’t help poking a bit of fun at her. It wasn’t mean, he told himself, just…playful. Never mind that he wanted to play with her. The intelligence and spirit in her eyes challenged and intrigued him so much that he couldn’t seem to help himself. “You know,” he said conspiratorially, “that’s the Super Bowl of baseball.”

She froze in place, her expression nearly panicked, and then he watched as she forced herself to relax, molecule by molecule. He wanted to make her melt, and unearth the woman beneath the stiff facade until he discovered her real smile. “And how important is making your World Series debut with the Pioneers? Wouldn’t it be easier, don’t you think, to play for a team that’s been there before?”

“The Pioneers were my first-choice team and it was a great day when they picked me in the draft. Going with this team to the World Series is the only thing I think about,” he said, as if he could feel any differently. “A World Series is a World Series, but the Pioneers are near and dear to my heart.”

Her expression was a mask. “Have you heard the rumors about Ismael Butler moving the team to Las Vegas?”

Jack could feel everything inside of him still and then speed up rapidly, his heart beating so fast he was sure she could see it through his thin T-shirt. This was why he hated interviews; there was always a question that managed to work him up. This time she’d unearthed the one question that not only made him see red, but freaked him the fuck out.

“That’s crap,” he managed to croak out. “The team isn’t going anywhere.”

“Maybe, maybe not,” she said and he wanted to hate that she was the lightest, most relaxed at the moment she’d made him the most uncomfortable. “But Mr. Butler was in Vegas last week.”

But even though he’d just met her, hate wasn’t anywhere in the equation.

“Mr. Butler has a lot of business in Vegas,” Jack shot back.

“I’m sure that’s true,” Noah added with a hopeful voice and Jack wanted to smack him for not sounding more confident, but he supposed the damage was already done.

Deep down, Jack suspected that point of no return had already come and gone long ago, maybe even the moment he’d opened the door to the media trailer to find Toby, and had discovered Izzy instead.

About the Author

Beth Bolden lives in Portland, Oregon with one cat and one fiance. She wholly believes in Keeping Portland Weird, but wishes she didn’t have to make the yearly pilgrimage up to Seattle to watch her Boston Red Sox play baseball. If only the Portland Pioneers weren’t only figments of her imagination.

After graduating from university with a degree in English, Beth unsurprisingly had no idea what to do with her life, and spent the next few years working for a medical equipment supplier, a technology company, and an accounting firm. Now Beth runs her own business as a Girl Friday for small business owners, assisting them with administration, bookkeeping and their general sanity.

Beth has been writing practically since she learned the alphabet. Unfortunately, her first foray into novel writing, titled Big Bear with Sparkly Earrings, wasn’t a bestseller, but hope springs eternal. Her first novel, The Lucky Charm, will be available in the beginning of 2014.

In her nonexistent spare time, she enjoys preparing overambitious recipes, baking yummy treats, cuddling with the aforementioned cat and fiance, and of course, writing. She’s currently at work on the The Lucky Charm‘s sequel, featuring Noah Fox. She hopes he’s a lot easier to wrangle than Jack Bennett was.

Three Favorite Quotes from The Lucky Charm

It was so hard to pick only three; it was also so hard to pick quotes that didn’t give away any huge spoilers. So here are three that give a taste of the book, but don’t give too much away.

Jack Bennett and Noah Fox, players for the Portland Pioneers major league baseball team, have just landed at the airport in Sarasota, Florida for Spring Training.

“Hey. Check out that girl with Palmer. You think that’s the new reporter?”

Jack glanced over at Noah’s lazy gesture. He spotted Toby’s graying head right away, and the lanky brunette next to him.

“She’s definitely nothing like Tabitha,” Noah observed with a trace of disappointment. Jack, on the other hand, was immensely grateful that from a distance she wasn’t blonde or overly tanned. Both positive steps in the direction of her being nothing like Tabitha King. He was pretty damn sure that the team couldn’t survive another Hurricane Tabby.

“She’s pretty, though,” Jack admitted. And she was. Her skin was extraordinarily fair, even from this distance, and Jack was sure he could see a smattering of freckles on her nose. She brushed the mass of dark, straight hair over her shoulder impatiently, as if she just couldn’t be bothered.

Fox did a double take. “Seriously?”

“Well, yeah. I guess she is,” he said defensively. “She’s supposed to be, isn’t she?”

“I guess. I just can’t believe that you wouldn’t admit that the flight attendant was cute, and yet here you are, salivating over Toby’s new reporter.”

“I’m not salivating.” Jack tried for bored, and settled somewhere north of annoyed.

There’s so many reasons I love this exchange, but there’s one that trumps all the others: Jack is pretty much putty the moment he sees Izzy. He’s just gotten through worrying about another female reporter and the havoc she could wreak on the team, and yet he still can’t take his eyes from Izzy. And I like how he figures out how no-nonsense she is right away, but he likes her anyway.

Izzy and Jack have just tried having a friendly dinner in a strange city, but he gets recognized and she freaks out, worrying she’ll be outed in the press for dating a player.

“Listen, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to trivialize your feelings,” Jack said, turning toward her, a trite expression on his face. “I just like hanging out with you and I don’t want to lose that. Even if that means we eat in a tiny box of a hotel room and I have to eat what room service calls a steak.”

His blue eyes shone with sincerity and that alone should have sent her running away, but even Toby witnessing this entire forbidden conversation couldn’t have moved her an inch.

“You really mean that,” she said softly, gazing up at him. He wasn’t the tallest guy in the universe, but she wasn’t tall either, and if she tilted her head up just right, she could almost imagine how well they’d fit together. Only a few steps closer, and she’d be able to find out.

“I told you. You’ll get nothing but the truth from me,” he said in a low voice. She thought he might have taken a step closer, too, because suddenly he was practically on top of her and it was both the best thing in the world and the worst.

One of my early reviewers called Jack a “prince of a hero” and this early exchange between him and Izzy I feel perfectly illustrates all his “princely” qualities. He’s not a smooth charmer, but he’s always going to be honest with her and never give her a single reason to doubt his intentions or his feelings. And to me, that is the most attractive quality a man can have—true transparency.

Jack loved the way the world slowed when he entered the batter’s box.

He loved the dust settling on his tongue, the way his hitting gloves bit into his wrists, the weight of the wooden bat in his hands.

A lot of players let the pitcher set the tone of an at-bat, but Jack was somewhat fanatical about making sure that he and nobody else, was in charge when he stepped up to the plate. Sometimes that meant walking to the plate a fraction slower than good manners demanded. Sometimes that meant taking an extra moment to go through his mental and physical routine between swings. Sometimes that meant giving the pitcher one of his patented fuck-off glares.

Baseball is such an integral part of The Lucky Charm that it didn’t feel right to not include a quote from Jack’s head as he’s at the plate in a game. Before he meets Izzy, baseball is pretty much the sun, the stars and the moon for Jack. There’s a part of him that will always live and breathe the sport, even after he’s forced to retire. And I hoped to communicate some of that love through his thoughts.

Top 10 Things I Learned Writing The Lucky Charm

My first novel, The Lucky Charm, was published at the beginning of May. I’ve been working on it on and off for almost three years. After writing only one book, I’m not necessarily entitled to offer much in the way of advice, but I know what I’ve learned over the last three years. If it helps even one person, my job here is done.

  1. Write, write, write. I’m going to start out with some borrowed advice from La Nora. She famously said, “I can’t edit an empty page.” It’s so true. I’ve learned that the first time I write a scene, it’s not going to be perfect—in fact, it’s not going to be very good at all. But that doesn’t mean I can’t fix it later. I truly believe the key to being a great writer is the ability to absolutely divorce yourself from your pride in the editing process. I instruct my beta readers and others who read early drafts to please be as honest as possible. If it sucks, I really, really want you to tell me now. But until you actually have those words on the page, you can’t possibly edit them—and don’t be too critical of yourself when you’re writing your first draft. It doesn’t have to be fantastic. It just has to have enough of the rough bones in place that you can refine it later.
  1. Editing is crazy important. Especially after other people have read your novel and given you feedback. If you can afford to hire a professional developmental editor (I used Stacy at Apoidea Editorial and she is fantastic), then you should. If you can’t, ask around and see if anyone you know either online or in real life is willing to read your book. Honestly, the more people the better. And not just to give you general comments at the end like, “oh I loved it!” Be upfront about your need to get real, constructive, specific criticism. If they can take notes and share them with you afterwards, that is obviously the most helpful. And having a good cross-section of readers helps too—not everyone will agree on what they think you need to change or keep. Ultimately it’s your book and so it’s your decision, but sometimes you’re just too close to the work to be able to judge it objectively.
  1. Don’t be afraid of the delete button. Sometimes something just isn’t working. I deleted a chapter towards the end of the book as late as February. I deleted a whole character only a month or two before that. In one of the very early drafts, I ended up deleting over 50,000 words. But an addendum to this: make sure you keep it all. Don’t ever permanently get rid of anything. You never know when bits of old scenes might fit in a different way or a different section. Every time I made major changes, I started a whole new manuscript copy. And I saved all the old ones.
  1. Don’t take it too seriously. Writing isn’t always fun. Sometimes it’s hard work—okay, most of the time it’s hard work, but that doesn’t mean you can’t deeply enjoy writing. If it’s beginning to feel like a chore and slog—give yourself a break. It’s important to be productive, especially if you’re not on any hard deadlines, but don’t let it become something you have to do. Sometimes even taking a day or two break for me would help. And during the last eight months or so, I was pretty much only editing on The Lucky Charm and since I find editing pretty much the worst kind of torture invented, I worked on a number of “fun” side projects. They may never see the light of day, but it was so much easier to return to editing if I’d been able to stretch my writing muscles a little.
  1. Write what you like. I know it can be so tempting to jump on the latest bandwagon that’s selling like crazy. After all, this is just as much a business as any other small business, and the whole point of a business is sales. But if you find yourself writing solely for money, you will get disillusioned fast. As I like to tell my husband when he gets these wild fantasies about retiring to an island paradise, this is not a millionaire’s business. So many authors are never able to quit their day jobs, or have rely on another income for some of their living expenses. When I started writing The Lucky Charm, the really antagonistic hero-heroine mold had just become really popular—you know the one where they hate each other so much until they get their clothes off and then they still hate each other, but have great sex—and I stated writing Jack and Izzy that way. At some point, I just stopped and took a step back and said, “this is just not working.” Jack isn’t that guy and if he attempted to grope Izzy up during a fight, she’d just punch him in the nuts. Once I changed the tone of their initial interactions, the whole book improved massively. This also goes along with the “enjoy yourself” point. If you’re writing what you like, then you’re going to have a lot more fun writing it. I hated all those sports romances where the sport was just a wallpaper background and the details that were included tended to be wrong more often than not. When I was writing The Lucky Charm, I was fanatical about getting the baseball right and honestly, those were some of the most fun parts of the book to write.
  1. Don’t feel pressured to put a lot of sex in your book—or feel pressured to put blank in. This is something I struggled with a lot. I think it’s kind of funny how so many reviews of The Lucky Charm mention how it’s a fairly mild book, especially considering how eroticized the romance industry has become. And honestly, I never set out to write it that way. I don’t think my other books will be as tame as The Lucky Charm is. Initially I had Jack and Izzy kiss a hell of a lot sooner and have sex sooner too, but then that undermined the seriousness of the conflict I was trying to establish—that they aren’t really allowed to be involved. By nixing the earlier sex (and the additional sex scenes), I emphasized the difficulty of the conflict and made it so much stronger. Towards the end of the editing process, I seriously considered putting another sex scene in, but I decided that putting sex in just to put it in wasn’t something I wanted to do. I liked it the way it was, and I had to trust that my readers would too.
  1. Conflict should develop naturally because of who the characters are. This is another point I struggled for years to understand and still don’t feel like I have a solid grasp of. Basically, the conflict between the characters (why they can’t be together) should arise out of who they are or what they do or some aspect of their history/present/future. In Jack and Izzy’s case, their most fundamental conflict is they’re attracted to each other, but they can’t date because she’s a reporter for his team and to respect her journalistic integrity, that kind of fraternization between players and media is highly discouraged. There are other aspects of who they are that emphasize the main conflict, but it all comes back to that one single point.
  1. Your main characters should grow throughout the story. I’m kind of fanatical about this. I believe each main character starts out at Point A when the story opens, and by the time Point B occurs at the end, they’re not quite the same person they were. They’ve changed and evolved, maybe not in big ways, but in some way that’s significant. In The Lucky Charm, Izzy changes a heck of a lot more than Jack does, and if you didn’t look closely, you might miss his changes at all—but I promise, they’re there. And I find sometimes that it helps to only have one character undergo massive change. Too much change and you’re probably courting way too much conflict, which can be just as deadly as not enough.
  1. If you’re self-publishing, the package should be professional. That means your novel should be copy-edited by a professional, or at least by someone who is very good at it. Hire a cover artist. Hire a formatter if you’re not experienced in the format necessary to upload to the different sales sites. The initial monetary outlay can seem excessive, but I promise, you will have more sales if you do these things. People like reading clean, well-edited, well-formatted books. You don’t ever want to have someone stop reading your book because it’s got a metric ton of grammar errors.
  1. As an author, don’t behave badly. This is another point I am still learning how to deal with. Bad reviews hurt. Criticism hurts. This is your freaking baby. You just gave birth. You want everyone to love it, even though logically you know that this can’t possibly happen. It’s the natural human reaction. But unless you are clearing up some actual factual error, for the love of God, don’t attack reviewers. Don’t sic your followers on them. Don’t whine publically on twitter or facebook about negative reviews. Rant all you want in private. And then resolve to write such a great book next time that the reviewer can’t help but love it.

Hook Me – Excerpt

The latch snapped. I could do this. The nearness of him dulled my fear.

His fingers brushed against my mound, sending an electric current through my body, as he grabbed the latched. “Safe and secure,” he said, pulling on the latch with a chuckle.

I opened my eyes and looked down at him. “I wouldn’t use either of those words right now,” I said as I smacked his shoulder.

I wasn’t talking about parasailing either.

“Come on, beautiful. There’s no turning back now. Up ya go,” he said, grabbing my legs and throwing me my over his shoulder.

I squealed as I flopped against his body, my chest colliding with his shoulder. I smacked his back; bouncing as I kicked trying to break free. “Put me down!” I yelled and laughed.

“My view is too damn good to do that, Doc,” he said and swatted my ass.

“Pig.” I reached down and tried pinched his ass.

Fucker was rock solid and I could barely get enough between my fingers.

“Nice try,” he said, unaffected by my effort and swatting me on the ass again.

I yelped, the sting from palm making me wish I could reach back and rub the tender spot. “Ugh,” I said as I bounced and grew slack in his arms, finally defeated.

The beach disappeared as he stepped on the boat. “Will you put me down now, please?” I asked, trying to sound sweet as sugar.

“If I must,” he said before placing a light kiss against my hip.

I closed my eyes and tried not to think about it, about him. The feel of his mouth against skin that hadn’t been touched in so long had me at my breaking point.

He wrapped his arms around my legs, pushing the harness into me, before pulling my body down against him. He controlled the speed, making the journey to my feet as drawn out as possible.

By the time my feet touched the boat I forgot how scared I had been. The sexual frustration I felt trumped everything. “You’re not safe,” I whispered as I looked up at him with one eye, the sun behind his head almost blinding me.

He laughed, pulling me against his shaking body. “Doc, I’ll make sure you survive the trip up there.” He bent down rubbing his nose against mine.

“It’s not the ride I’m talking about, Michael.”

“I know.” He smiled and kissed me, his lips shaking under mine from the laughter still rumbling through his chest.

Stolen Course by Aly Martinez Review

5 Smooches!

kis kis kis kis kis

Synopsis

**Each book in this series can be read as a stand alone.**

I fell in love with Manda Baker eight years ago, and I loved her to the core of her soul. We were supposed to have that elusive happily ever after and spend a lifetime together. But that was all before she was STOLEN from me.

Her best friend, Sarah Erickson, killed her. It wasn’t intentional. It was far worse. Everyone claims it was just an accident, but I can see through the lies. Even if it’s with my dying breath, I will make her pay for what she did.

Fate hates me. It robbed me of my first love and left me to navigate through this world emotionless and numb. Then, one day, spiteful fate gave me a woman to fill my shattered soul and make me feel again. It gave me Emma Jane Erickson. Now I spend my days searching for the answers that will ruin Sarah and my nights falling in love with her sister—the one person who is bound and determined to save her.

But what happens when everything you know to be true explodes around you? Who will be left to pick up the pieces, and who will need to be saved from the wreckage?

Review

OH MY GOD!  I loved this book so much.  It was just as good as the first in this series, Changing Course.  This is the second book in this series and it can definitely be read as a standalone.  However, you do not want to miss out on Changing Course because it rocks and it gives you insight into this extremely drama filled story from the beginning.  Reading Changing Course will also help you love Caleb and I feel like that is important since he acts like an asshole much of this book.

You learn in Changing Course that Caleb lost his fiancé in a car accident 5 years ago and has basically been sexing it up with woman after woman, not really committing to anyone.  He just cannot get over Manda and he cant forgive the woman who he blames for her death; Sarah Erickson.  Sarah has finally reached a point in Stolen Course that she is forced to get help for her mental problems, so her baby sister, Emma Jane Erickson, moves closer to Sarah to help her recovery.  Caleb and Emma have an instant connection but both have strong reservations because of Caleb’s hate for Sarah.

I feel like I could write a whole book on how I feel about Caleb.  His character is so complex.  The poor guy is so miserable and hell bent on revenge that you cannot help but feel sorry for him even though he is a complete asshole most of the time.  He is literally ate up with hate and cannot find a way out of it.  He has been living this way for years and although he wants to change for Emma, it almost seems impossible.

10365944_10154209874560414_3130342898830427842_n

Behind all of this hate and misery is a man who wants happiness.  He can see it with Emma and there is not a question that he wants her for the long term, but it so hard to picture them together with all of the hate that he has for her sister.  Talk about angsty…so much drama.  I absolutely loved it.  So, Caleb has the number one attribute for a spectacular book boyfriend; he is tortured.  Next up, he is super alpha and sexy.  Lord he dirty talks and bosses like nobodies business and I adored it!

“See, I’m greedy, Emmy.  I’m going to make that tight cunt of yours come on my hand, my mouth, and my cock tonight.”

Sweet baby Jesus!  Yes, please!

And Emmy is his perfect match.  She doesn’t take any shit and she is just as dominant and bossy as Caleb.  She is strong in the wake of his weakness.  She isn’t insecure or put off by his love for Manda.  She embraces it and loves him for it.  She loves her sister and won’t back down from helping her for Caleb.  She is loyal, honest, and hilarious.  Her and Caleb’s verbal sparring made me laugh out on many occasion.

“And let’s be honest here–they make lifetime movies about shit less dramatic than our relationship.”

So, in conclusion, this book was amaze-balls.  It was sexy and had a beautiful story of moving on and gaining some closure.  If you read the first book in this series you will definitely need to read this one because there was some very important information regarding the accident  disclosed in this book that brought a lot of people the closure they needed to move on.  I really did just love this book.  I cannot wait for more from Aly.

Review

Bad Girls Don’t Marry Marines is the third book out in the Rock Canyon Series by Codi Gary. I love this fun sexy series and can never get enough of their antics. Codi Gary writes a story that is both emotional and fun all at the same time. I deeply felt for Valerie and could easily identify with the troubles she was going through and why it was so hard for her to let love in.

It’s not easy being known as one of “Those Willis Girls.” When your dad is a prominent citizen and well respected and you and your sisters act like normal fun loving young women it’s easy to get an undeserved reputation. Add a public divorced toppled with lies and a town gossip all to happy to spread them and you will have a very unhappy and untrusting woman. This is the situation that Valerie finds herself in at the young age of 26. After trying to live to make her father happy she is finally gonna live to make herself happy.

Justin is the man that Valerie spent one (innocent) night with in her teen years that she could feel an instant pull towards him. He was in town on leave from the Marines and when they met sparks just fly. So what’s the problem . . .his dad is not only a drunk but the enemy of Valerie’s father and when her dad found out about their one night he shipped Valerie off and she never saw Justin again.

Years later fate has brought them both back to Rock Canyon and when he knows the spark they once felt is still there Justin is not giving up so easily this time even if Valerie is swearing off love and relationships. Can these two get past all the baggage their fathers have installed in thier life to give that true once in a lifetime kind of love a chance?

I had so much fun reading this book. Although the issues in the book were heartbreaking and emotional, the characters were so much fun and so well written I couldn’t put it down. I have never read a book by Codi I didn’t love but I think this one might be my absolute favorite so far. The story was great, the characters well developed and the sex was HOT! Codi Gary’s Rock Canyon series is definitely one I would recommend to anyone (although this can easily be read as a standalone too.)

Review

This is the first novel I have read by Noelle Adams and I must say that I really enjoyed it. The book is unique in the perspective and narrations. It goes from past to present and back again, and changes points of view between Leah and Kevin.

The book opens on vacation in the French Riviera with a foursome (2 couples) enjoying graduation and career changes. The reader can sense that the couples are “consciously uncoupling”,to steal a term from Ms. Paltrow, and are going to return home with changes to friendships and romantic relationships.

As Leah and Kevin are somewhat forced to play-up their relationship on a staged vacation, I just wanted to hurry up and see what was going to happen when the truth came out. This in turn caused me to stay up until the wee-hours of the morning to finish!

The romance and sex were pretty awesome, which might have been another reason that I stayed up late!  The unrequited love and the double-entendres keep the chemistry alive and have you pulling for the couple.

I think my one criticism was that the novel would have been better served with a little more description of locations, further background information of friends, and a deeper understanding of the relationship between Kevin and his father. Which would have made it longer, and less like a long novella.

All in all, this is definitely a great read that will leave you with a happily ever after that I so enjoy. I will be reading more of Noelle Adams in the future.

Synopsis

He was a pig, a jerk, selfish, callous, crude, tactless, prone to outbursts and gorgeous. The kind of gorgeous where you didn’t even attempt to hide the fact that you were staring. I knew the type: His entire life he has coasted on his good looks, artificial charm, and sex appeal. Everyone wanted to be on him or be him. I had been hurt by jerks like him before. He was like those guys but far worse.

I was the unfortunate sucker to be offered a gig I desperately needed as his live-in chef for a Summer in the Hamptons. But I wasn’t like the other girls, the models and socialites who came through the revolving door of his bedroom. I would bite the bullet, take the gig, deal with his sexist comments, his expectation that I would fawn over him, and have no problem letting the door hit my ass on the way out when I was done.

But then something unexpected happened that changed everything and I realized that there maybe more to him than the labels I had affixed to his character. Maybe. But if he really wanted me, it wasn’t going to be easy, not like everything else in his life. Hadsae was goadsing to have to work, I was going to make him miserable. He was going to hate wanting me just as much as I hated myself for wanting him back.

Heath Hillabrand: International Supermodel. Womanizer.

Gorgeous Rotten Scoundrel.

excerpt

He leaned in to kiss me, and I sort of, kind of, pushed back. But I’ll admit, it was a weak attempt, because dammit he’s so fucking hot and his kisses taste like sex. If there was a sex-flavored popsicle, it would be called the Heathsicle. Maybe we could do this just this once and get it out of our systems, I thought to myself, pulling him in by his shirt collar as we kissed.

He moved to my neck, kissing it so softly, and it made everything tingle. I cannot believe I am making out with a supermodel. He buried his face into the crook of my neck, kissing softly, but pausing in between, caressing my skin with his warm breaths.

Why is he doing this to me? It’s like he knows I have a weak spot for narcissists.

He ran his right hand up my thigh, pushing my dress up. All I had underneath was a thong, a flimsy shield for a sex machine like Heath Hillabrand. He grabbed my ass firmly, pressing me up against him and when I felt his huge hardness through his jeans, the reality of the situation began to sink in, but not nearly as much as when his fingers slid into me.

Oh god, oh god, oh god. This is the point of no return, get your shit together. You cannot be this fucking weak, Sadie.

“Okay, we have to stop,” I said, pushing him away from me, as a I panted for air. My skin was prickly all-over with sex tingles and my body so wanted to keep on, but that sliver of sober brain I had left would not let me move forward.
