Excerpt
I’m browsing through emails on my phone as I ride the elevator down to the lobby. It halts on the third floor, and I back up to let more people on. I don’t lift my head up as the elevator starts again, but suddenly I’m hit with the sound of laughter.
It’s innocent, young, and vibrant. I’m intrigued, so I shift my body to get a better view of her. My eyes find the young girl in the front by the doors. I watch her from the side and notice she’s on her phone. She’s smiling wide and laughing with whomever she’s speaking to on the phone. The doors slide open, and I walk around a few people to exit, except the girl doesn’t move and I crash right into the back of her, pushing us both out of the elevator before the doors close. Instinctively, I wrap my free arm around her waist to catch her from face planting the floor. Her back is pressed against my chest and for a moment, I don’t want to let go.
Her phone isn’t as lucky. It slips out of her hand and lands on the lobby floor.
“Shit,” she curses and my arm frees her to bend down and grab it off the floor.
“I’m so sorry,” I begin apologizing as I step back. My eyes wonder to her bare legs and up her tone thighs to a pair of black workout shorts. She’s wearing a baggy sweatshirt as if she’d been running or working out. I can smell the fresh sweat on her, but it doesn’t turn me off. In fact, it does the exact opposite.
“That’s okay.” Her voice cracks as she turns around, and I finally get a good look at her. “Oh, Mr. Leighton,” she says surprised, and I immediately curse the bad luck that brings me to my new intern—Casey West.
“Miss West?” I finally say as she stares up at me in silence. “I thought you weren’t coming until Saturday?”
“Hide your disappointment, Mr. Leighton.” The corners of her mouth perk up into a cocky smile. “I was just picking up the paperwork and doing all the background check questions.” Her witty personality is spot on just like the last time.
Everyone that works or interns at Leighton Enterprises goes through an extensive background check for security reasons. All of the files are confidential, and only journalists reporting on the stories can know the exclusive information.
“Ah, yes. Of course, the paperwork.”
Paul failed to mention she’d be here today
She continues eyeing me, and I wonder if she feels the electricity between us as much as I do.
“Well, I’ll see you Saturday, Mr. Leighton,” she says as she is seductively smiling up at me. She quickly turns around and begins walking toward the lobby doors.
I put my phone in my pocket and shake the thoughts of Casey out of my head. This is crazy. I can’t think of her like that. She’s my goddamn intern.

Review

“This is crazy. I can’t think of her like that, she’s my goddamn intern.”

Well, Brooke has done it again! She has grabbed my attention and left me wishing I could just read more and more of this story right now. Right from the beginning I was intrigued by Ceci’s tragic story and her desire to solve the mystery of her father’s murder. I absolutely LOVED Ceci’s fearlessness in going after what she wanted whether that was solving the crime or flirting with the sexy boss!

“While I was researching Leighton Enterprises, I came across many pictures of Mr. Leighton himself. He’s gorgeous on screen, but in person, he’s trip-over-yourself-just-to-lick-him gorgeous.”

I guess I am a sucker for a taboo romance, but really who wants to always read about people who are predictable and you know how they would end up. Give me a good age difference along with roles that scream WE CAN”T DO THIS any day. This story is HOT! So freaking hot but I knew it would be. Brooke never lets me down when it comes to writing a story that keeps me entertained, turned on, and desperate to see what will happen next.

“Note: No allowing skirts at work. On second thought . . . Only short skirts allowed.”

Ceci is a high school senior posing as a college student in order to get an internship at a firm where she might get some insight into her father’s case. Bentley is a former model who is now taking a role in the family business and finds himself with an attractive and ambitious new intern. From the moment they meet till the moment they give in the chemistry between these two is so strong. Bentley is an amazing dirty talker and had me weak in the knees for him every time he opened his hot, sexy mouth.

“If you keep talking like that I’m not going to make it that far.” I smirk “Then. Take. Off. Your. Fucking. Pants.”

Personally I found that The Intern was a great read because in addition to being amazingly sexy and fun it was a well written story with layers. Ceci’s struggle to accomplish what she is at this job to do (get information on her father’s murder) and the distraction her super seductive boss creates makes me wonder where this story will go. After reading this first part in a three part series all I can say is when do I get my volume two cause I need that like yesterday!

Hot Blooded by Kendall Grey Cover Reveal

unnamed (1)

If Robert Rodriquez (Sin City), Tony Soprano, and David Lynch (Twin Peaks) made sweet love to a Hawaiian version of The Bride (Uma Thurman’s character from Quentin Tarantino’s Kill Bill), the resulting spawn might look like Kendall Grey’s upcoming mystery/suspense/supernatural thriller, HOT-BLOODED.

The first installment in the Ohana series, HOT-BLOODED is set on the island of Maui and is wrapped in the light and dark watercolors of Hawaiian culture, history, and mythology. It’s about guns, drugs, surfing, and tiki monsters. HOT-BLOODED tells the tale of a ballsy, half-Hawaiian angel-turned-demon, the duplicitous assassin who falls for her, and the blessings and curses of family—all wrapped up in freaky, supernatural gift paper.

Here’s the description:

WARNING: HOT-BLOODED does NOT end with a happily ever after. It contains drug use and graphic sex, language, and violence. The story is intended to entertain, not to condone or glorify illegal or immoral activities. This book is unsuitable for sensitive readers and those under the age of 18.

*Written in 3rd person. Contains a massive cliffhanger and multiple POVs.

Ohana is everything…

When an accident claims her mother’s life, Keahilani Alana must take charge of her ohana (family) or risk losing what little they have. With an underage brother to care for and no education, she has few options. The door to a heavenly hellish opportunity opens when she stumbles upon a valuable secret her mother left behind on the slopes of an extinct volcano—a legacy that tempts the family with riches beyond their wildest dreams. But the secret is much bigger and more sinister than they realize. As reality unravels and exposes eerie truths about the ohana that should have remained deep under the mountain, Keahilani must either resist the call of her blood or risk being consumed by its darkness.

Blake Murphy is an assassin working to infiltrate a new Hawaiian cartel. His investigation reveals that Keahilani, the sexy surfing instructor he pegged as an informant, is much closer to the drug ring than he thought. Passion ignites between them in the bedroom, but their ironclad ties to opposing interests pit them against each other everywhere else.

When tensions reach the breaking point and her ohana is threatened, the only cure for Keahilani’s hot-blooded fury is a loaded clip with a body bag chaser.

They don’t call her Pele for nothing.

Here’s the cover, designed by Renee Coffey:

So, are you up for a steamy, violent descent into tropical-island madness with a supernatural twist? If so, you can add HOT-BLOODED to your Goodreads TBR here. The release date hasn’t been announced yet, but Kendall is shooting for the end of June or early July. Stay tuned!

I’ve been creating my own little world since I was very young. When I was eight years old, I began to bring those worlds to life with pen and paper.

While I write across genres (I find it hard to stick to one genre), I do have an archetype when it comes to the female protagonist — they have to have certain type of strength, strong convictions, and layered personalities. There will often be a lot of darkness and depth to my stories, but I don’t see the point in writing vapid characters who are thrust into “safe” situations.

Writing Science Fiction/Fantasy is my first love. If there is one thing for sure, I’m a bit of a misfit when it comes to Romance. I prefer my romances dark. The elements that will be common in my stories are: depth, controversy, and misfit characters.

THIS IS A total STAND-ALONE NOVEL. No need to read the first two books in the series to enjoy this book. This is not a dark romance.

So, I don’t give up and I won’t let them win
I will find you and I will make sure that you know
You’re my everything

Review

Beautiful Broken Promises is the third book in the Broken series but is completely a standalone novel. This series has been one of my absolute favorite New Adult series since I first got my hands on Beautiful Broken Rules. I literally tell everyone I talk to that they NEED to read these books. Kimberly Lauren writes a story completely different than any other I have read and Beautiful Broken Promises was beyond AMAZING and UNIQUE. This is by far her best work yet.

bbp2

I think it is extremely important that I don’t give any more away in this review than the incredibly vague blurb tells you. When I first read the blub for this book I was wondering if it was really necessary to give so little about the plot away. You really go into this book blind and I honestly believe it is so much more of an emotional roller-coaster that way. The twist and turns in this book were ones I would never have guessed.

Lane was everything I wanted him to be and so much more. He was damaged, bruiting, and as alpha as you can imagine. Lane starts out crude and womanizing but over time we really got to know the amazingly intense yet  gentle and devoted man he can be. Watching Lane’s character develop over the course of this beautiful story was something I truly look forward to doing again and again when I re-read it (and I am positive I will)

bbp1

This review has to be the hardest review I have ever written. How to you convey how AMAZING a story is without giving away any of the plot and I hope that is what I did. If I could give Beautiful Broken Promises more than 5 Smooches I would. Beautiful Broken Promises is an emotional, tragic, uplifting, sexy, and captivating story that I am positive everyone will love. I will say as vague as both the blurb and my review are you will get your HEA and while parts of the story are heartbreaking overall I believe Lane’s story to be about overcoming that heartbreak and making a better and happier life for himself and those around him.

Three days, that was my average. Three days
before my skin started crawling and I needed another hit. By hit I
mean another girl. Girls were my drugs. They had been for a while
now. At least they were safe, well, as long as I made sure to wrap
it.

The fact of the matter was that I had slept
with a lot of girls. It wasn’t something I was particularly proud
of, but there were worse things to be addicted to.

Tonight I’d chosen the grocery store as
my hunting ground. The raven-haired firecracker from the other night
had left me feeling dirty, so I was in the mood for something sweet.
It was just a guess, but I figured women who spent their Friday
evening grocery shopping were probably more innocent.

And I was totally in the mood for
innocence.

Wandering the aisles I did some of my
normal shopping, placing a few things I needed in one of those hand
basket things then I took my spot by the cereals. Yes, the cereal
aisle. You want to talk about innocence—it doesn’t get any more
wholesome than cereal.

I picked up my box of Fruity Pebbles and
stood there, pretending to study the nutritional information. Luckily
I didn’t have to wait long before someone joined me. Someone up
there must have been smiling down on me because the first girl to
walk down the aisle was a solid “eight.”

With auburn hair and her nose and cheeks
covered in freckles, she was definitely what I would call “cute.”
The clothes she wore put her at college-aged, or certainly fresh out,
and her hand basket was empty. She was definitely here to pick up her
dinner.

And the best student dinner?

Cereal.

Told you—I was a genius.

She was likely homesick too. Missing out on
a good home-cooked meal. Poor thing. But never mind, her night was
about to get a whole lot better.

She stopped next to me and grabbed some
healthy bullshit. Out of the corner of my eye I looked at her and my
lips tipped upward in a smile. When I spoke, I kept my eyes fixed on
the shelves, but I knew she’d know I was talking to her. They
always did.

“I’m trying to convince myself that
Fruity Pebbles are healthy.”

She giggled. “Yeah, sorry to inform you
but they’re not.”

She blushed, her face a shade comparable to
her hair.

“Dinner?” I asked, turning to face her
and gesturing to the lack of food in her basket.

“Am I that transparent?”

“No, I’m just a good guesser.” I
stuck my hand out for her. “Rob,” I said as we shook hands.
“And
just in case you were wondering, I’m a fabulous cook.”

Review

“Love doesn’t exists anyway. Love was ridiculous. Love was useless. That’s pretty much how I felt about it.”

I have been a huge fan of this series since I read the first book, Imperfectly Perfect, but I can honestly say nothing had me more excited than getting my hands on bad boy Rob’s story. I knew there had to be a great story behind why Rob is such a womanizing ASS and OH BOY was I ever right!  A.E. Woodward wrote a man so damaged and hurt by his past that in the beginning I was a bit worried he could not be reformed.

Who gives a shit about hearing those three little words? I love you. Pfft. “Oh God! Oh, Rob! Faster! Harder!” That’s all I ever really needed to hear.

Let’s just sat that I love an ass in a book. As much as I hate asshole men in real life, I somehow love them in my book life and Rob is definitely one. He uses women to get his jollies off and sends them on their way as soon as he is done refusing to ever even kiss them on the lips. The only clue his friends know about why he acts the way he does is a lone tattoo on his forearm reading “Jenny”

“The red flush that colored her cheeks had me questioning how red her ass would get if I spanked her.”

When Rob makes a surprise discovery and finds the girl who hurt him 12 years ago at a coffee shop in his town he is taken right back to that hurt place of being a 17 year old boy in love. Couple that with a budding relationship with Layla, his secretary at work and you have the makings of a drama filled love triangle. How do I always end up reading love triangles. There is literally no other story line in the world that gives me as much anxiety as a love triangle. I literally stayed up all night just to find out how Rob’s story would end and who would get this man.

“People come in and out of your life for a reason whether good or bad, and they serve a purpose.”

So much happens in this book and I don’t want to give it all away because you will honestly be so surprised by the twist and turns that you won’t be able to put the book down. I have yet to read an A.E. Woodward book that did not captivate me the whole way through and leave me guessing till the very end!

“Sounds like you have it all figured out, don’t you?”
A satisfied smile crossed his face. “Uh-huh.”
“I bet you have a dirty mouth, too?”
By the look on his face, it was fairly obvious he was about to say something dirty. “Sweetheart, you’d be surprised what that mouth can get me and what it can do for you.”
“Wow.” I threw my head back. “You’re so fucking arrogant.”
“Arrogance is a blessing.”
“How so?”
“No matter what you say” — he winked — “you want a man with confidence.”
He had me there.
A raucous burst of laughter brought me out of my island boy trance.
I brought the glass to my lips, finishing my drink, and watched a group of intoxicated girls grind on each other. Next to them, there was a group of men watching, drooling, and then taking them home.
“A girl really did a shot off a guy’s dick?”
Tyler grinned and held up the bottle of tequila in one hand, the other one undoing his belt buckle. “Wanna try?”
“Oh, uh.” I swallowed, and I thought he sensed maybe I wasn’t drunk enough for that, but it did sound appealing to me. I wouldn’t mind putting my mouth on him for sure, the thought tempting, even if I just envisioned it in my mind.
Before I had a lot of time to think about it, Tyler looked around the bar. It was empty for the most part, so he patted the bar. “Hop up here, city girl.”
“On the bar?”
He raised an eyebrow, setting the bottle of tequila on the bar and then placing two limes and salt beside it. “Yeah, what the fuck does ‘hop up here’ mean in city terms?”
“All right, let’s do it.” I gave a nod, as if to prepare myself.
“Off my dick?” You couldn’t miss the eagerness in his voice.
“Uh, no. Something else.”
I jumped slightly when his hands touched my exposed knees, pulling them apart. He then grabbed the salt shaker and made me get on the bar. He moved between my legs, putting his hands on my thighs again. With a firm grip he slid me forward and stood so his chest was in line with mine, so close I could finally smell him. He smelled like summer, warm sand, rum and cologne, fresh and clean.
He let go of me and then drew back far enough that he could raise his hands to pull his T-shirt over his shoulders. Goddamn, was he muscular and tanned. Dark markings scattered his chest and arms with what appeared to be about twenty or thirty different tattoos. I didn’t have a single tattoo, and the thought of getting even one terrified me. But part of me was really excited right then because now I knew he didn’t have a cat’s ass on his stomach. I could work with this.
I snuck a peek at his body again, just one more and proudly noticed him doing the same thing.
Oh yeah, I could definitely work with this.
We stared at each other for a moment, Zac Brown Band bellowing through the bar.
I was fairly modest in my attempt at a body shot and did one off his neck. Licking his soft but rough skin, I took my shot and then sucked on the lime in my hand. He said nothing, showed no real reaction other than his arms tensing when I licked his neck.
We sat there, staring at each other.
It was his turn.
Slowly he bent down to my neck, his lips on my collar bone, but he didn’t stay there. He surprised me when he moved lower, and lower. When he reached my thighs, he slowly spread them apart, his thumbs on my inner thighs, just inches above my knees.
I moaned, tossing my head back. “Of course you’d do that.”
He looked up at me, his head between my legs. “Nice panties.”
“Stop looking.”
I went to close my legs, but he caught them in his firm grip, prying them apart. “I don’t think so. You owe me.”
His mouth moved in, closer, and then closer. The heat from his breath and the humidity had me sweating like crazy. No way did I want his mouth down there. I tried to pull him up by his shoulders, but he knocked my hands away and shook his head.
With his mouth on my left thigh, he slowly licked a trail upward until his nose hit the bottom of my dress. Drawing back just slightly, he reached beside him for the salt, sprinkling it over the path his tongue had just made. Reaching up he placed the lime in my mouth.
Is he serious?
Yep. Looks like it.
I took the lime, willingly. He grabbed the shot and lowered himself once more between my legs. Wanting to tease him, and maybe torture myself, I spread my legs a little farther apart.
He smiled, his eyes a little darker as his hair fell in his face. Nothing was being said, but this was by far the sexiest shot I’d ever experienced.
With absolutely no hesitation, he licked the path he made with the salt, his tongue flat and wet against my overly heated skin. The sensation shot through my body, causing me to jump on contact. He noticed and gripped my thighs a little tighter, holding me still.
Pulling away, he threw his head back and took the shot, and then brought himself to my mouth. At some point I had bitten down on the lime; the juice squeezed down my chin and neck. Licking my neck, then chin, capturing the juices, he then took the lime, smiling the entire time.
Our lips never touched, and I was sadly disappointed. I wanted to kiss him.
He leaned toward me and brought his lips to my ear. “Now imagine that…higher….” His left hand, which was on my thigh, still moved higher until the pad of his thumb was between my legs. He stroked his thumb over my clit, separated from his skin by the thin wetness of my panties, with just enough pressure that I wanted to scream and then shove his entire hand up there.  To say my body was now officially more liquefied than the drinks that this delicious looking bartender served to his customers would be the biggest understatement of the night. I needed him as much as I needed my next breath. Praying that this night ended the way I’d envisioned because this ache wasn’t going to go away on its own.

Something Worth Saving
It was one night, one fate and something tragic destroying something beautiful.
Heavy sheets of smoke curling and rolling together constricting my visions of this life I had.
You see that there?
That wrenching pain in your gut knowing not everything as it seems?
Look closer. That nervous energy you now have, stumbling over words you can’t say, a voice muffled under a mask, a moaning plea to be saved, slurred words on the tip of your tongue, there’s the something tragic.
When I have nothing left to give, nothing left to say, it’s him that brings me back to the moment, in the arms of my firefighter, the warmth of his heart and body, struggling to save his family.
Just Enough
Coming Summer 2014
I want out of this town.
I want to leave and never look back.
He doesn’t knock when he comes in, he never needs to. He knows, as well as I do, my door is always open, waiting.
I crave him. I do. He knows this, I think, I know, and I believe he craves me too. Why else would he come back?
It’s his determination and his will that gets me. That determination keeps me waiting for him in a dreary bay. I’ve always heard my friends say they wanted the rich guy to take them out of this small town that seems to hold us all captive.
Lincoln wasn’t that guy. At first look, he’s a fisherman, married to the sea and weighted by her waves.
Who is he to me?
He’s someone who gives just enough.
He shows me a different way of thinking. A way to give more than just enough.
