Synopsis
Powerful yet tormented warlock Quinn Fairmont must initiate the silver-eyed Cade Mairston into the world of witchfinders, Withinners, and what can happen when two men fall truly, madly, deeply in love.
THE WORLD IN SHADOW
In modern London,, there lurks a warlock. Quinn Fairmont. Dangerous, powerful, tortured. Sharing his body with the soul of an ancient Welsh sorcerer, Quinn is never alone—and never wholly himself. He fights against all those who would exploit his kind. He also takes pleasure where he can find it.
In the forest of Hampstead Heath, Quinn’s hometown, Cade Mairston appears like a waking dream. Lithe, lean and silver-eyed, he evokes feelings in Quinn unlike any other: along with lust comes true affection, immediate and shocking. Cade is clearly more than he seems. And yet, though a man of the world, Cade knows nothing of warlocks, witchfinders or Withinners. He knows nothing of what he is, what he might be, what he might feel. For him, the story is just beginning, and magyck, peril and passion await.
Review
I really love M/M books and I really, really love paranormal, so this book was a complete treat for me. While the book started off a bit slow, it definitely delivered. The story was gripping, romantic, and smoking hot!
This story was very intriguing and had a little bit of everything. Quinn, a King of sorts to the Warlocks, meets Cade, a water sprite. The connection between these two is off the charts and makes for very steam M/M scenes. Swoons. These boys are so very sexy! Do not even get me started on Quinn’s Withinner; he is off the charts hot and dominant. Amidst all the sexual tension is plenty of story. There are tons of warlocks being taken out and Quinn is trying to find the culprit while protecting his best friend and lover but what he doesn’t know is how many enemies he has. It seems he has them coming from every direction.
This was very well written and my very first Susan Mac Nicol book and I would definitely read her again. I really liked it and she writes some really steamy scenes.

Two Lives Torn by tragedy.
Eight-year-old Becca and twelve-year-old Hunter cling to each other and life after surviving a plane crash which stole their families.
Two Souls Seeking Love.
Each year, from the time she was old enough to travel on her own, Becca met up with Hunter on the island that altered their lives forever.
Until he stopped showing.
Her constant. Her link to the past. Gone in the blink of an eye.
Two Lives Bound by Secret.
Suffering more heartbreak, Hunter returns to the one place he’s always sought comfort, the island where he and Becca met. It was the place that stole from him, and in the same instance gave to him. He hasn’t been back or spoken to Becca in four years.
Though he’s sure she must hate him for disappearing, Hunter discovers the girl gone, now a woman in her place. Hunter is determined to prove to Becca he isn’t the same twelve-year-old boy of yesteryear.
But someone isn’t happy about their reunion…
Strange things begin happening. Letters start showing up in their hotel rooms and at home with cryptic messages.
Two Broken Hearts Heal as One.
With the mystery unsolved, Hunter convinces Becca to spend the remainder of the summer back home with him, both for safety and to give them a chance to discover the adults they’ve now become.
Will love get a chance to blossom, or will the past come back and tear the masterpiece of their love apart once and for all?
Excerpt 1
“You have this knack for memorizing every detail and then capturing it on canvas later. Everyone who visits me asks about your paintings. I tell them that the artiest is special – one of a kind. I’ve even had a few people offer money to take your art home. I’ve had to turn them down.”
Becca opened and shut her mouth again. He had to be pulling her leg on that last part.
“I’m serious. If I could take you home and introduce you, I bet you’d have people lining up to meet you.”
She let out a laugh, but it came out more of a squeak. “You still have that way about you that flatters me every time.”
“I’m sure you get flattery all the time. But I mean what I say.” Hunter extracted his hand from hers and reached in his pocket. “I brought you something.”
Before she had time to protest, Hunter pulled the item from his pocket and handed it to her. It was a small box, wrapped up in pretty blue paper. He pushed it across the table, urging her to open it.
Sometimes he acted like four years hadn’t passed between them. Becca shook it off and reached for the box, carefully removing the perfectly wrapped ribbon, then tore into the box.
He didn’t get her just one thing. There were multiple items inside. She held up a small seashell and a key chain.
“It’s from Mexico. I bet you don’t have any from there in your collection.” At her silence, Hunter bit his lip. “Do you still collect them?”
She certainly did. She used to keep all her small keepsakes like these in a chest that had a lock on it. That way her grandparents could never get into the chest and search through her mementos and memories that only she would understand. Now that she lives by herself, she displays them proudly. Hunter knew her fear of flying, so every time he went somewhere new, he’d send her a piece of the world.
Hot tears pricked her eyes. “Thank you. They’re beautiful. Perfect. I can’t believe you remembered.”
“I don’t ever forget things when it comes to you, Rebecca. I have more, but I thought I’d bring those for now.” A dark emotion flashed in his eyes. “I can’t make up for the years I didn’t show, nor will I try, because you can never make up for lost time. I just want you to know how important you are to me.”
Excerpt 2:
“Guess what I found?” Hunter carried a sweater and a pair of sweatpants in his hands. “You’ll be nice and warm in no time.” He handed them to her.
Becca pointed to his head. She wished her words would just come out already.
“You don’t want to change into dry clothes first?” He raised a brow, then winced. “Damn that hurts. Okay fine, you win. I will probably curse and go stark crazy, so bear with me please?”
She may not have been able to find her voice to speak, but a quiet laugh escaped her throat. At least, that’s what she thought it was.
Hunter crossed his arms over his bare chest. “Are you laughing at me?” Amusement danced in his gorgeous eyes. “That’s so messed up! There is a little devilish side to you after all. I like it,” he teased.
Becca smirked and pointed at the first aid kit. She wondered if he remembered any of the sign language, back from when she’d been mute and unable to communicate all those years ago. But so far, he’d been able to understand what she needed. The very first time he came to visit her, he’d learned it so they could talk. She remembered that day well on her aunt’s back porch when Hunter sat beside her. She nearly cried that he’d taken the time to understand sign language for her.
“All right little devil, have at it. Just don’t get offended for any swear words I may use.” He cracked a smile. She loved that he could still have a sense of humor. It showed that even though he had some injuries, he was the same old silly Hunter she knew. She pointed down at the floor, wanting him to kneel before her. Again, he cued in right away and lowered to his knees.
Becca opened up the first aid kit and searched for what she needed. As she pulled out a large bandage, cotton swabs and the small bottle of peroxide to clean the wound, Hunter hissed. She flicked her gaze back to him.
“Call it psychological warfare. I’m anticipating that it’s going to sting like you wouldn’t believe. I know, I know, I’m being a baby and I should just shut up.” Hunter raised his hands. “Think you can do that one handed? I might need you to hold mine with the other.”
Becca grinned and held out her hand. She wished her voice would work with her so she could tell him how cute he was being. She couldn’t be too sure if he was putting on an act to make her laugh or if he really was bothered by what she had to do. Regardless, she felt needed. Important. Something she longed for. When his shaky fingers curled over hers, a ripple of electricity zipped through her.
Now those were strange, random thoughts.
“Your hand is so cold. Not that mine is any better,” Hunter said softly. “I know, I’m stalling. I’m should just man up and take it, huh? You won’t tell anyone about my weak side there, will you?” He chuckled.
She slid him a knowing grin and put a finger to her lips, then ran the finger across them as if to say ‘My lips are sealed’.
“I knew I could count on you.”
Excerpt 3:
“I echo that sentiment.” Hunter chuckled. “What a night.” They entered Range’s and headed for the elevator. As the doors enclosed them in the small space, he turned to her again. Gently touching her face, Hunter inched closer. “Bec, I feel like we should talk about that kiss. That’s the second time we’ve kissed and this year, I don’t want to walk away without talking about it.”
So that was still bothering him. And second kiss? So he did remember what happened four years ago. Well, shoot! She felt the heat rush to her face. She was so not ready to talk about this yet.
“It was just a kiss,” she said softly. “We were caught up in the moment.” Just a kiss? Oh, that was the wrong way to describe it. Hunter’s kiss was on another level of amazing. She didn’t know how to put it into words. She could get lost in a kiss like that under an umbrella in the rain. Or standing by the ocean while the sun set as the chilly waves danced around their feet.
Just like that, the room filled with an unseen energy charge between her and Hunter. What was that all about? She melted inside as his lips parted. What stopped her from kissing him again was the elevator. It jerked to a stop, signaling the arrival on her floor. The doors pulled apart.
“I’d better go,” she muttered, tearing her gaze away from his face. She whirled and bolted, unsure of what to make of that tension she’d just felt. It wasn’t the bad kind, not at all. It was the I-want-to-do-something-crazy-with-you kind.
Before the doors closed, she heard Hunter’s quiet words. “It was more than just a kiss.”
Back in her room, she leaned against the closed door and sank to the floor, touching her lips as if she could feel Hunter’s still on them from yesterday. His voice echoed inside her head with his last comment. Yes, it was more than just a kiss.
For the past twenty years, Hunter had been her friend and mentor. On many occasions, her protector and voice of reason. The one who knew her weakness and fears, yet still loved her despite them.
Four years ago, something changed. And this year, it seemed to evolve. She had to push it out of her mind when he fell out of contact. She’d left it alone.
Until now.

About The Author
SEX! It all started with sex, between my parents. Personally I don’t like thinking about it, but whatever works for you is a-ok with me. No judgment. The sex happened in California and much of my life also occurred in that state until I moved from the land of nuts (almonds), wine, silicon… boobs, and heavy traffic to the southeast US. Like most writers I like to write, but let’s get back to sex. Eventually I married and gave birth to 2 small people-children (boy-6, girl-4 as of this writing).
By day I’m a biomedical researcher with focus on rare diseases. By night I’m a knitter, sewer, lino block carver, fabric printer, soap maker, and general crafter. By the wee hours of the morning or when I’m intoxicated I love to listen to the voices in my head and let them tell me stories. I hope you enjoy their stories.

Love Hacked by Penny Reid Review
Excerpt
[I was swimming in my conflicting contemplations when, upon attempting to exit the bathroom, my progress was wholly impinged and impugned.
By Alex.
He stopped me. Meaning, he put his arm out, barred my way forward as though he’d been lying in wait. His eyes bounced between mine before finally settling on my mouth with completely unapologetic brashness.
“Hello, Sandra.”
“Hello, Alex.”
He smiled, slow and a little wicked. He leaned a fraction of an inch closer—which, by a percentage of the distance separating us, was quite a lot. “Did you enjoy your butter chicken?”
“Yes. Did you enjoy serving me?”
His gaze flickered to mine, held. He had the most unusual eyes. Dark, dark blue—like cobalt—with black and gold specs radiating from the pupil at the center. “Serving you is always a pleasure.”
Of course, his voice and words sent an enchanting shivering awareness down my spine and to my nerve endings. Unaccountably, all my previous concerns evaporated and I was left only with a single thought.
Alex naked.
Zing.
I returned his smile, hoped mine rivaled his for wickedness. “Glad to hear it.”
“So, Sandra…” he hovered, dipped his chin so that I had to lift mine to maintain eye contact. If I took a deep breath our chests would probably touch. “You owe me one, right?”
I nodded, knew that my outward appearance of nonchalance was the complete opposite of the building apprehension and excitement twisting in my middle. “That’s right. At this point, after what you did for Marie, I might even owe you two ones.”
He shook his head, looked momentarily thoughtful. “No, I don’t think so. Your friend Fiona seemed to be perfectly capable of handling the situation. What’s her story anyway? What does she do?”
“She’s a former engineer for the State Department. Now she’s a stay at home mom.”
His face darkened, his eyes lost focus for a split second as though he were absorbing this information. “The State Department, huh?”
“Yes. Why?”
“No reason. Anyway…” his eyes ignited again as they moved over my face. “You owe me one.”
“Yes, as you’ve stated previously.”
“A big one—that’s what you said?” His eyes were steady, unflinching. It should have been unnerving. Instead, I found it strangely adorable—like he didn’t know any better.
“Yes. I believe those were the words I used.”
“What time will you be done with your friends?”
“Now, actually. I need you to bring our check.”
“Good. The restaurant closes at ten tonight. Can you be back here by nine fifty-five?”
I studied him; my head fell backwards a bit, my eyes narrowing into surveillance slits. “I’m confused.”
“Confused?”
“Yes. Your behavior is confusing.”
An eyebrow arched above overtly nerdy glasses. “How so?”
“You run hot and cold. You sit with me on Friday, are confrontational, and it’s clear you have a genuine dislike of psychiatrists-”
“You’re right, I do dislike psychiatrists.”
“-then you kiss me-”
“You kissed me first.”
“-but you offered first. And then you walked away.” I paused, allowed my statements to marinate for a few seconds, then added. “But tonight you’re very solicitous and are flashing the sexy eyes again.”
He didn’t respond immediately and I was somewhat surprised to find an expression of obvious admiration warm his gaze as it moved over my face. Finally, he said, “I do dislike psychiatrists, usually.”
“Why?”
He ignored the question. “But, I like you.”
“Why?”
He ignored that question too. “And I’d like to apologize for sending mixed signals. Will you come tonight?”
My lips twisted to the side. I wasn’t yet satisfied. “First, answer me this: why did you decide to sit down with me on Friday? I’ve been coming in here for over two years. If you like me, despite my unfortunate profession, why’d you wait so long?”
He didn’t hesitate in his response. “It was the dress.”
My eyebrows jumped. “The dress?”
“Yeah. The red dress. I was compelled to act. I had no choice.” His nod was gentle, but his barely-there grin was wicked. It did things to me.]
Favorite Quotes
“He was bald in a way that made me think of both melons and sex.”
“Alex the waiter was on my Spank Naughty list in third place, right after Henry Cavill the actor, then Henry Cavill as Superman.”
“They never look nice, it’s basically impossible. You can’t dress them up, and I’ve seen a lot of balls in the ER. I’ve never seen a man’s balls and thought to myself, Now that guy has a great set of testicles.”
“I love you like MC Hammer loves Gestalt Theory.”

Review
Love Hacked by Penny Reid is the third book in the Knitting in the City Series. It can be read as a standalone but honestly why would you, all of these books are AMAZING and you would be a fool to skip any of them. Love Hacked follows the story of Sandra, a late 20s psychologist, and Alex, who is in his early 20’s and a waiter.
Sandra has a super power . . . she has the ability to turn the well-adjusted, successful and happy men that she goes out with into crying fools on their first date. Sandra meets the men she is going out with on Friday nights at the same Indian restaurant and every time she leaves with a new male “friend”, and they leave with a reference for her friend Thomas a Psychologist. This is why in her late 20s Sandra has not been kissed in 3 years.
Alex is the mysterious sexy waiter who has been watching Sandra turn grown men to crying babies for two years and then one night and one red dress . . . ZING! After one of her dates leaves Alex decided to make his move and sits down and invites himself to dinner with Sandra.
After dinner, when Alex corners Sandra and they Kiss . . . ZING! The chemistry between these two is undeniable but Alex is nothing like the man she has formed in her mind for her future. He is young, mysterious, and doesn’t open up easily. Can these two get past all of their differences and find out where this intense connection will lead?
There are so many things about this story (and series as a whole) that I love. Penny’s writing style is exactly what I love. She knows how to mix just the right amount of humor, action, steam, and love to form a book you just can’t put down! I loved the whole mystery into Alex’s past and trying to figure him out along with Sandra was so much fun. I was constantly surprised as to where the story was taking me and never would I have guessed some of the turns it took!
Love Hacked left me dying, wanting my very own Alex. This man had such a way with words that I was melting the whole way. Reading this story you, could feel how much he loved Sandra even when she didn’t want to acknowledge it. I want an Alex, there is nothing quite like a smart, witty man who knows what to say to make a girls panties fall off!
Overall, I would recommend this book to anyone who loves a sweet romance story with a side of intrigue and a huge dose of humor. All of Penny’s books have me laughing so hard and rushing to text one liners to my friends.

BLURB:
Northern was supposed to be a fresh start—a place where people didn’t know who I was or how I had spent years in and out of mental institutes. People didn’t know about my parents death or the island no one heard of. But when Peter sits next to me in lit class, I can’t stop the memories, and I don’t want to. He looks too much like the boy from the island, and despite my best intentions, coaxes my secrets from me.
He’s gorgeous, irresistible, a little mad, and completely lost—we are a pair of broken cogs in a world neither of us truly fits into. And he listens when I talk, about the past and the terrifying future. He is somehow gentle and fierce, heartbreaking in his devotion and savage in his defense.
When Belle, his best friend, shows up, pale and lovely and sick, Peter pulls away from me, a startling withdrawal. It’s a relationship that scares and confuses me. She is at times warm and friendly, and other times is violent and unpredictable.
Peter says that he wants me, but refuses to let himself get close. And there are secrets, surrounding both of us, that border on nightmares. As the memories close in, as Belle gets sicker and more violent, I’m torn between what is true and what I believe, and what this magical boy knows about my mysterious past.

I shrug. “Because I can’t help but trust you. Even though it’s stupid and I have no good
reason for it–I want to trust you. I want you to be someone I can trust.” I open my mouth, to tell
him about the boy, about why it is so important to me. Why I should stay away from him, and
why I can’t seem to.
Peter speaks first. “I don’t know who your father is. I don’t know why you want to run
from your past. But the thing is, Gwen, I don’t care. I want to be part of now. I’ll fight tooth and
nail to be part of now.”
“What if now is temporary?” I ask, thinking about my aunt and my tenuous grasp on
sanity and all the reasons I should step away from Peter.
“Then we enjoy what we have,” he murmurs. I shudder as his voice wraps around me,
as warm as the hand curving around my neck. He makes a low noise, and lifts me, until I’m
sitting in the circle of his crossed legs. Pressed against him. I can feel his heartbeat through his
shirt, the unsteady pounding. His fingers are still pressed against my hips, still holding onto me
despite having me where he wants.
I should move back, put distance between us, so he knows that this isn’t ok. I sit still and
silent in his arms and wait for the chiding voice, telling me it’s wrong.
The voice that has drown out every thought and feeling, every time a boy has touched
But it’s silent, oddly absent—maybe it is as charmed by Peter’s appearance as I am.
“What is Lane, to you?” he asks, breaking my thoughts.
I shrug, looking at the pulse point pounding in his throat. “A friend.”
“I don’t want you near him.” He says.
There is a part of me, slight but there, that is annoyed by his pronouncement. But the
bigger part is smirking, leaning in so that my lips tickle along his neck. Peter goes very still, as I
whisper, a hairs breath from his skin, “Are you jealous?”
His voice is low, gravelly, “Yes. Fuck, yes I am. I don’t want any man near you—I hate
Micah for being your brother. I want you with me, always.”
His voice is so fierce, wild. It’s a savagery that is at odds with the soft circle of his arms,
the gentle press of his fingers on my back.
That is all tenderness and fragile care.

I wanted her here with me. Please, come back to me, Sabrina. Bre and I were connected. Our souls were one. We were both fucked up and broken, but together we made each other whole again. I couldn’t stay away, I sat on the side of the bed, took her hand mine, and started stroking my thumb over her knuckles again. I wish I could hold her in my arms, pull her into me, and place a deep kiss on her tender lips. I wanted to feel her heart beat on my chest as I held her close to me, snuggled safe in our bed. The door swung open, bringing me out of my thoughts. Jon walked in carrying food and a change of clothes.
He set a stack of paperwork down on the windowsill and turned toward me.
“Caston, you need to go home, get some rest. You can’t live by her side. The doctors aren’t sure when, or if, she will wake up.”
My head snapped up, and I stared him down. “Are you fucking kidding me right now? Can you honestly tell me that if this was Sara you’d leave her alone like this? Do you know she moved today?” His eyes widened, and he moved closer to her bed. “I know, buddy, but maybe you just thought she did. I mean they said that muscles twitch and shit when people are in comas.”

I am a mommy of two, wife to an amazing man, and full time employee. Life is crazy and busy! I started writing again for a group of women I met last year. They brought back the passion for writing I haven’t seen since high school. Starting this process was tedious and nerve-wracking, but my amazing ladies and my fabulous husband have inspired me to take my love for writing to the next step.

4 Smooches!
Synopsis
Jacqs is a twenty-eight year old woman caught up in an on again, off again relationship with Bond, who is her best friend and the one who causes her the most heartache. She succumbs, yet again, to his powerful charisma, but vows not make it into more than it is, a great night of sex.
Bond, too sexy for his own good, wants Jacqs for himself as he “dates” his way through the female population of South Florida. He selfishly doesn’t see the conflict of interest.
Red, Bond’s best friend, has watched Bond take Jacqs for granted for way too long and soon stakes his own claim on her.
Will Red and Jacqs budding relationship pull apart their tight-knit group of friends and will Jacqs survive being Stuck In Between.

Review
Wow! This book really through me for a loop! I kind of thought I knew what I was getting into when I started but I can honestly say that part of me didn’t know how everything was going to pan out right up until the last page! A definite page turner, I couldn’t put it down. Jacqs has had an on-again off-again relationship with Bond for years now but she is finally done with his inability to be monogamous. Broken-hearted by his blatant and constant cheating she vows to never succumb to her intense attraction to him again. At the same time that she comes to this decision, Red, Bonds best friend (who she thought hated her) approached her and admits to wanting her for years! The close relationship between all of these characters makes for a real emotional rollercoaster! I don’t want to give away too much of the story line but this book is chock full of steamy sex scenes with some light BDSM. I totally fell in love with Red; he is sexy, strong and extremely patient. Bond was a tough character for me, he comes across as a real jerk for a lot of the book and he didn’t fully redeem himself in my eyes. I will say that this book ends with some things still feeling a little unsettled so I really hope we learn more in subsequent books in this series.
