Where we go from here is where we were always meant to go… Right back to where we left off.

AITA: Am I the asshole?

Five years ago when she left, she broke my heart. No warning. No hey, this isn’t working out. No nothing. Just poof. One day she’s there, in my bed, and we’re talking about our futures. The next, she’s gone.

So when she shows up five years later and acts like she didn’t leave me with a broken heart, I get angry. So. Freakin’. Angry.

Of course, this is where I spiral. When we went through medical school together, we were on equal footing. Not anymore. Now I’m her attending, and I’ve made it my personal mission to make her life hell.

She wants to finish up her residency and finally become a doctor? Well, she’ll have to go through every single bad thing I can throw at her, first.

Seeping, maggot-infested, pus-filled bed sore? Yep, that’s hers to take care of. Man shitting every three seconds uncontrollably? That’s also hers. Man and woman having a baby while also in the throes of a divorce? You guessed it. Hers.

If I can make her leave after what she put me through, I’ll feel accomplished.

Only problem is, I forgot how determined Valhalla Singh was. Guess she’ll be reminding me.

Because Valhalla wasn’t named that for nothing.

EXCERPT:

“Introverts don’t make friends. Either one of two things happen.

One, they sit in their little bubble by themselves for their whole life or two, an extrovert adopts them.

That was what Felix was to me. An adoptive extrovert.

On day one of medical school, he’d taken one look at me and had all but swept me under his wing like that was where I’d been all along.

“What’s your name?” He flashed me a grin.”

“I’d noticed Felix Kent on the first day of school.

He’d sat in the back like all other social people did, gabbing and carrying on until the teacher had called class to order.

By the time it was finished, I’d taken three front and back notebook sheets of notes and had gained a new friend.

Felix, having seen me taking such good notes, had stopped me out in the hall and asked if he could take a photo of my notes.

I’d agreed, and on that went for about a week before this moment right here.

“You don’t know my name, and you’ve been copying my notes for a week?” I asked, outraged.

I knew everyone’s names!

I even knew his middle name. Felix Alexander Kent.

And he had no clue what mine was?

“To be completely honest, I’ve been calling you Poppet in my head, and I keep thinking of you as that. But then I saw Valhalla written on the sign-in sheet, and I wanted to know your first name,” he answered.

Poppet.

I kind of liked that.

“My name is Valhalla,” I answered. “Valhalla Drew Singh.”

BLOG REVIEW TOUR WITH EXCERPT: What Happens at the Lake by Vi Keeland

WHAT HAPPENS AT THE LAKE, a new grumpy-sunshine contemporary romance from #1 New York  Times  Bestselling Author, Vi Keeland, is out now!

It’s not so easy to walk away when what stays behind is your heart…

When life took an unexpected turn, I decided to get out of New York for a while. What better place to go than the idyllic small town my father spoke about so fondly when I was growing up? Laurel Lake held the title America’s Friendliest Town for seventeen years running, and friendly was just what I needed right now.

Unfortunately, friendly wasn’t the welcome I got when I arrived.

Instead, I got Fox Cassidy. My tall, dark, and burly neighbor, who grunted at me instead of saying hello.

Okay, so I might’ve had his mailbox in my hands the first time we met. And it might’ve been a little crushed after removing it from under my tire. And I might’ve needed his help breaking into the place I was staying in after the key broke off in the lock. But still…he didn’t have to be so grumpy.

As time went on though, I started to notice things about Fox other than his glares. Like how he watched me when he thought I wasn’t looking, or how fire ignited in his eyes whenever we bickered. Though I was in Laurel Lake to escape my problems, not create new ones. And getting involved with a man like Fox screamed trouble, even if he was gorgeous and unlike any man I’d ever met.

But alas, problem seemed to be my middle name this year. So why not have some fun while I was here for the summer? It seemed like a good plan. At least until it was time to go home…

They say what happens at the lake, stays at the lake. But it’s not so easy to walk away when what stays behind…is your heart.

EXCERPT:

She smelled like damn summer.

And it pissed me off.

Plus, I was tired from a shitty night’s sleep. I’d tossed and turned thinking about Little Miss Home Improvement wearing nothing but a pair of denim short overalls and work boots—no shirt, no socks, definitely no bra or underwear.

Josie hopped down from the last two steps on the ladder. “Can I ask you something?”

“What?”

“Are you always this grumpy in the morning?”

“I’m not grumpy.”

“No? So this is what? Your idea of a sparkling personality? I asked if your coffee was okay, and you grunted at me.”

“That wasn’t a grunt. That was a yes.”

Josie made a short, deep noise that sounded like a pig.

I arched a brow. “Is that supposed to be me?”

She made the sound again, this time adding some monkeylike arm movements and jumping around. “Gronk.”

“Cute.”

She jumped again. “Gronk. Gronk.”

I tried not to react, but she was just too damn adorable.

Josie pointed at my face. “There it is again. The elusive Mr. Grumpy Pants smile. It’s kind of…dare I say…nice.” She made an exaggerated gasping sound and covered her mouth. “Oh no. I hope it’s not too painful.”

“Alright, wiseass. I get the point. How about you take your oinking ass out front and grab one of the small two by fours I left on the porch? I’ll show you how to make an easy support to hold up the drywall while it gets screwed into the ceiling.”

Josie strutted to the door. The woman was wearing a white tank top and long, pale pink, flowy skirt to do construction. It looked like she was going on a picnic date, rather than hanging sheetrock—though the tank top hugged her in all the right places, and there was something about her collarbone that I couldn’t drag my eyes away from. She bent to pick up the wood out front, and the top of her tank gaped open, giving me a clear view down her shirt. I forced my head in the other direction, though my eyes managed to slant and continue looking.

“Jesus Christ,” I grumbled to myself. “I need to get the fu¢k out of here.”

REVIEW:

I am a huge Vi Keeland fan. Whether it’s one of her collaborations with Penelope Ward or a solo release, I love Vi’s writing, and her storytelling skills absolutely shine in What Happens at the Lake. A heartwarming grumpy/sunshine, neighbors-to-lovers romance set in a charming small town, Keeland masterfully crafted the electric energy between these grumpy and sunny personalities. Undeniable chemistry and snappy banter fueled the build-up of Josie and Fox’s relationship, and the cozy backdrop brimming with endearing side characters captured the essence of community and love in this a picturesque lakeside town.

A wonderfully addictive blend of humor, heart and heat, What Happens at the Lake was a captivating page-turner and the perfect platform for showcasing Keeland’s storytelling prowess. A must-read for fans of small town romances and the opposites-attract trope, Josie and Fox’s love story was as steamy as it was sweet. Five smooches from me for What Happens at the Lake by Vi Keeland!

EXCERPT:

~Aubrey~

I’m back under the covers as Ledger returns from the bathroom, wearing basketball shorts and a gray T-shirt. With a nod, Dev heads back into the bathroom, and the sound of the shower turning on reaches me.

As Ledger comes over to the big bed, there’s a mischievous look in his eyes. Before he can say something, a lightbulb goes off in my head. “You want that side?” I ask, pointing to Dev’s nightstand.

Ledger’s eyes sparkle. “Yeah, and since Dev’s in the shower, I don’t even have to call shotgun.”

“Go for it,” I say, his partner in crime.

Ledger goes to the other side and gets into bed before he moves Dev’s things. Then, he grabs the Kindle and stretches all the way across me to set it on the other nightstand. His chest is inches from my face. His body is over mine, and I’m staring at the breadth of his muscles, the size of his biceps, the cords in his neck, all while water patters rhythmically from the room nearby.

This is such an unusual bird’s eye view of the man.

I don’t mind it one bit. I hold my breath so I don’t…gasp.

When Ledger moves back, I watch him again, retreating over me. And for a second, he stops, pressing a hand into the mattress on one side of me.

“You have…” His eyes travel over my face, then he tips his chin at me. “An eyelash.”

“I have many,” I say, but I know what he means. I lift my hand, gently brushing at my cheek.

He gives me a faint smile before he pushes up on an elbow and ever so tenderly brushes it off my cheek, then blows on it.

My heart squeezes. “Did you make a wish?”

“I did,” he says, then gives me another soft smile that turns into another yawn.

I wonder what he wished for, but suspect he’s reached the end of sharing tonight, so I don’t push. Instead, I try to give him what he needs—not pushing, not asking.

“Good night, Ledger,” I say, tugging up the covers and playfully tucking him in as the shower forms our soundtrack.

He grumbles. “I’ll just kick them off.”

“I have no doubt,” I say.

He sighs, a contented, sleepy sound as he settles into the pillow, then looks back at me once more. “Good night, Aubrey.”

It’s a soft wish against the quiet night.

But it’s his gaze, even in the dim light of the room, that tugs on something inside me. That same impulsive part of me that was compelled to kiss him on the cheek last night in the parking lot.

Maybe it’ll ease the tension of sharing a bed.

Or maybe I’m just an impulsive girl. I lean over and give in to the urge. But he must have shifted as I moved, because my lips don’t touch his scratchy cheek. They dust against his lips instead.

His lush, hungry, masculine lips.

“Oh!”

The surprised sound comes from me. He doesn’t move. I don’t either. Instead, I linger for one, two, three delicious seconds on his mouth. In that shadow of a kiss, I feel a pull toward him. The sense that he needs something. That I could be the one to give it. It’s there, unspoken between us.

Finally I break the silence. “I didn’t mean to.” It comes out staccato, and it’s probably a lie.

His expression is stony till his lips quirk up. “I wouldn’t stop you.”

REVIEW:

Lauren Blakely returns to her why-choose style, hockey romcom series with Thoroughly Pucked, featuring a jilted/runaway bride and her older brother’s two best friends. Lauren brilliantly combines heart and humor with a touch of forbidden allure as she tackles the contradictions of a bride who was left at the altar as she comes to terms with the fact that she feels more relieved than rejected while she’s on what should have been her honeymoon with her big brother’s two best friends. I listened to the audiobook, which narrated in duet by Samantha Brentmoor, Jason Clarke and Teddy Hamilton. Incredible performances were delivered by this cast who were as in-sync as the first line of a Stanley Cup winning NHL team.

Blakely brings it all together with witty writing and expert pacing that created a narrative that was both laugh-out-loud funny and sizzling with chemistry. The vibrant and endearing trio of characters each contributed to the chaos in their own hilarious and heartwarming ways. Navigating the uncharted territory of their unconventional romance, their love story was full of surprises as it unfolded and kept me hooked from start to finish.

A steamy and emotionally resonant hockey romance that defies convention, Lauren hit all the right notes in Thoroughly Pucked. Blakely turned the runaway bride trope on its head with a seriously sexy twist and a heroine making her way through the forbidden terrain of a love triangle with two of her brother’s best friends. The cleverly crafted dynamic between the characters made for an absolutely addictive, unputdownable read with as many heart-racing moments as there were humorous ones. Five smooches from me for Thoroughly Pucked by Lauren Blakely!

PRETTY DEPENDABLE, a small-town, single-mom, friends-to-lovers contemporary romance from USA Today Bestselling Author, Lacey Black, is available now!

I have to make her see we can have it all. I’ll show her love is worth the risk…

Ellie

Being a single mom is the most challenging, yet rewarding job I’ve ever had. Especially in a small town, where everyone knows your story, or at least their version of it.

They say it takes a village, and they’re right. I’ve been lucky to have close friends to help me raise my son, Brody. One particular friend stands out above the rest. TD stepped up in a big way, teaching my son everything a father should. That’s why his friendship means so much to me. Brody and I both rely on his friendship. Any feelings I have for my sexy friend must stay buried. It’s safer that way.

Turns out, it’s much harder to do when he decides he’s done being just my friend. He wants more.

TD

There’s nothing worse than being in lust with one of your friends. For years, I’ve been fighting my attraction to Ellie and keeping it a secret. I thought I was doing what was best for all of us.

Between working as the local police officer and coaching high school football, I’m left with very little downtime, but what I do have is spent with Ellie and her son. When I find out the seventeen-year-old boy might be working to get this football coach and his mom together, all bets are off. With Brody on my side, I’m willing to take the chance and blur the lines between friends and lovers.

I have to make her see we can have it all. Despite her reservations, I’ll show her love is worth the risk.

REVIEW:

No one does small-town romances quite like Lacey Black, so it’s a given that if she writes one, I’ll be reading it. Pretty Dependable is a heartstring-puller built on the solid foundation of best-friends set against the charming small-town backdrop. There was a bit of an unrequited love/pining for your best friend vibe to this story that I really loved. Lacey’s storytelling is a wonderfully addictive blend of sweet heat and small-town familiarity, and she delivered a heartfelt romance that completely captured the essence of a friendship that turns into soul-deep love. Ellie and TD’s journey was a touching, tender and totally unputdownable best-friends-to-lovers romance that I practically inhaled in a single sitting. I absolutely loved it, I love this series, and I can’t wait for more. Five smooches from me for Pretty Dependable by Lacey Black.
