He was mine once. But as of today, the only thing I’ll be calling Ford Ellis is Coach…

I’ve spent the better part of a decade forgetting Ford Ellis. If he had just stayed away from Montana, I might have erased the memory of his striking blue eyes and rugged smile forever. Avoiding him was easy when the only place I saw his face was on ESPN—and a remote control could fix that problem.

Except my boss just hired Ford as the new head coach for the Treasure State Wildcats. Not only will I be stuck watching him on the sidelines this season, but avoiding him will be impossible now that we’re working together.

Maybe I haven’t forgotten Ford. Maybe I still dream about what we might have been. Maybe he hasn’t forgotten me either.

Except those maybes won’t change the fact that we were never meant to be. Maybe he was mine once. But as of today, the only thing I’ll be calling Ford Ellis is Coach.

EXCERPT:

I walked to the door, turning the knob with an I’m sorry I suck as a best friend poised on the tip of my tongue. But it wasn’t Autumn on my front porch.

It was Ford.

And Joey.

“Hi.” His blue eyes danced as my jaw dropped.

“Hi, Millie.” Joey lifted up on her toes as she waved.

“H-hi. Uh . . . what are you doing here?” I infused my voice with false cheer and plastered on a fake smile—for Joey’s sake, not Ford’s.

“We’re going hiking,” he said.

“Did you get lost on the way to the mountains?” I pointed over his shoulder to the blue peaks in the distance. “They’re that way.”

Ford’s smile widened, flashing me those white teeth, and damn him, my instinct was to smile back.

Don’t smile. Do. Not. Smile.

Joey was smiling too. It was the adorable gap between her front teeth that broke my resolve.

The corner of my mouth turned up.

“Get some shoes,” Ford ordered.

My gaze dropped to my bare feet. I looked back up and glared. “Did you just order me around?”

“He does it to me all the time,” Joey muttered.

Ford chuckled.

A giggle escaped. “What is happening?”

“Hiking.” He snapped his fingers. “Let’s go, Mills.”

“Can I use your bathroom first?” Joey asked.

“Sure.” I stepped aside, waving her in. “Just go down the hallway on your right. It’s the first door.”

It was a mistake to step so far to the side. Because the moment Joey came in, Ford followed.

I didn’t have a massive house. My cottage was eighty years old, and though the previous owners had done a renovation, the rooms, albeit charming, were small.

With him inside, it might as well have been a dollhouse. His presence consumed every inch, charging it with the same electricity he brought into my office.

He was in a navy, sleeveless athletic shirt. His arms, ripped with muscle, were on full display. My gaze traced the lines of his biceps, the curves of his triceps down to his sinewed forearms. His black mesh shorts draped over the bulk of his thighs.

And the tattoos on his right arm, oh my God, the tattoos. Ford was so focused. So steady. The tattoos gave him a reckless, sexy edge.

I wiped the corner of my mouth. Yep, that was drool.

“Millicent.”

My face whipped up to his. While I’d been gawking, he’d closed the gap between us.

Ford leaned in, just an inch, like he was going to kiss me.

I put my hand in front of his face. “Do not kiss me again.”

There was a challenge in his eyes. I was so busy trying to make sense of it that I didn’t notice his hand shoot up to capture my wrist. His fingers were so long he wrapped it easily. Even when I tugged, he had me trapped.

With that smirk on his mouth, he pulled my hand toward his lips, turning it at the last second to place a chaste kiss on the inside of my wrist before loosening his hold.

I yanked my hand free and took a step away, my skin buzzing from the softness of his mouth. “You listen as well as a brick wall.”

SYNOPSIS:

Devney Perry branches out into sports romances with Coach, the first book in her new Treasure State Wildcats series. Against a college football backdrop, Perry launches this series with a steamy and emotional second-chance, single father romance. Millie and Ford were best friends in college who both harbored secret crushes on each other but didn’t cross the line—until that one time… But then Ford took off, leaving Millie behind without a word. Ten years later, he returns to his alma mater as the new football coach and gets the surprise of a lifetime when he finds his old friend—and the only woman he’s ever loved—is one of his new co-workers.

Perry’s writing is always so beautifully crafted, and she has a talent for creating complex, relatable characters enveloped in poignant, heartfelt love stories. An unputdownable, heartwarming soul-mates love story with a dash of heartbreak and plenty of authentic emotion and smoking hot chemistry. The slow-burn build-up of Millie and Ford’s romance was sweet, steamy and addictive, and their journey is filled with ups and downs that kept me tapping my Kindle until the very end. I loved these characters, I adored Ford’s show-stealing daughter, Joey, and I was all-in and rooting for Millie and Ford from the from page one. Five smooches from me for Coach from Devney Perry!

EXCERPT:

He looks me in the eyes, intense and powerful. “I had a great time. I’m still having a great time. But if you’re ready for this night to be over, I’ll walk you back to the hotel. I’ll say goodnight in the lobby like a gentleman after I make sure you get safely in the elevator. But if you want to dance, then I want to take you to that club,” he says.

I’m thrilled and relieved at the same time. It’s not the end—it’s the start of the rest of the night. “I do want to go with you.”

“Good.” He inches closer, crowding me here on the sidewalk, the beach to one side, the South Beach scene to the other. He drops my wrist, his hand snaking around my waist instead. With him this close, I catch a hint of his cologne—he smells like fresh-cut wood and snow. Intoxicating. “But you need to know if we go dancing, I’m going to dance like a man who wants a woman. Close to you,” he adds, letting those words linger in the air between us like sweet smoke. “My hands on your soft arms, my chest pressed to your lovely back, my nose in your beautiful f&*king hair that I’ve been dying to inhale all night long.” His fingers travel lower, curving over the fabric of my dress covering my ass. “Is that how you’d like to dance with me?”

I can’t speak.

I have no words. I simply ache.

“Yes,” I whisper.

“Good. Then let’s go. But first…”

He reaches into his back pocket and takes out his phone. He slides open the screen, clicks on it, then shows it to me. It’s a text message to him from his mother. I hope you’re remembering to wear sunscreen, Nick.

I laugh, all the tension defused. My wariness vanished into the night. “Well, did you, Nick? Remember to wear sunscreen?”

With a twinkle in his eyes, the gorgeous, older man shakes his head as if he’s relishing his naughtiness. “I don’t always do the right thing.”

“But you said you’d walk me back to the hotel. That seems like the right thing,” I say, back to teasing.

“I’m not sure dancing with you like I want to f&*k you is the right thing. But I’m going to do it anyway.”

I blink.

This is true speechlessness.

Then he brushes his lips against the shell of my ear, whispering, “Be a good girl. Write back to her and tell her you’ll see her Sunday. Because later, you’re going to be very, very busy.”

Desire swoops down my body, pulses hot between my thighs.

I can’t wait to be very busy.

REVIEW:

The Tryst by Lauren Blakely is the second book in her Virgin Society series, and as such, virgins and their first time experiences are the foundational trope. I listened to the audiobook, which was narrated in dual POV by one of my favorite pairings, Teddy Hamilton and Vanessa Edwin. Teddy and Vanessa’s chemistry is natural, and they positively sizzled, delivering fantastically authentic and thoroughly engaging performances. The plot follows the journey of Layla, a successful young businesswoman and NY socialite, who meets the sexy, UK-based keynote speaker, Nick, at a conference in Miami, and as the title clearly states, engages in a titillating tryst. It isn’t until months later that she learns Nick is the father of her ex-boyfriend turned friend.

Blakely’s writing is always top-notch, and she skillfully weaved together a tale of love, lust and longing. The characters were well-developed, their emotions were raw and real, and I was completely caught-up in the steamy build-up of their relationship. The Tryst is a forbidden romance, so if that is your jam, Lauren’s spin on it—with an age-gap twist—will be right up your alley. As heart-tugging as it was heart-racing, Nick and Layla’s story was a captivating, seductive story that kept me hooked from start to finish. Five smooches from me for The Tryst by Lauren Blakely!

RELEASE BLITZ: The Rules of Dating My Best Friend’s Sister by Vi Keeland and Penelope Ward

THE RULES OF DATING MY BEST FRIEND’S SISTER, a new best friend’s sister contemporary romance from New York Times Bestselling Authors, Penelope Ward and Vi Keeland, is available now!

You know what they say…all good things must come to an end, right?

From New York Times bestselling authors Vi Keeland and Penelope Ward comes a new standalone romance.

Rule number one for dating your best friend’s sister: Don’t.
Just don’t do it.

Especially when your best friend is dead and the last thing he made you promise him was that you’d keep an eye on his little sister, but not too good of an eye.

As a musician whose longest committed relationship was six weeks, I, Holden Catalano, was the last guy on Earth who should’ve been messing around with Laney Ellison.

The super smart girl whom I affectionately dubbed Lala since childhood was always off limits.

Though that didn’t stop me from thinking about her over the years, especially those times when the two of us would sneak out onto the roof and talk for hours after my buddy fell asleep. It was innocent, but I’d always held a torch for her.

After Ryan passed away, I vowed to always protect Lala. That included protecting her—from me.

Now all grown up and a scientist, Lala needed a place to stay when she accepted a temporary research position in New York. I thought I did the right thing by offering her an apartment in the building I co-owned with my three friends.

Except having her close by reignited all of those old feelings.

And things started to get complicated.

Especially since she was engaged.

And especially since, lately, I’d noticed something more in her eyes. Desire.

Lala didn’t exactly look at me like the platonic brother figure I was trying so desperately to be, even though I wanted her more than I’d ever wanted anything.

Yet, I was being good—on my very best behavior.

But you know what they say…all good things must come to an end, right?

REVIEW:

The Rules of Dating My Best Friend’s Sister by Vi Keeland and Penelope Ward was a fun, fiery and full of feels forbidden, friends-to-lovers romance. Holden Catalano has harbored a secret crush on his deceased best friend’s sister, Laney “Lala” Ellison, for quite some time but never made a move, which was unfortunate because Laney had her own secret crush on him, too.

Keeland and Ward never disappoint me with their co-written novels or, and as usual, they crafted something truly special in this charming and captivating romance, The Rules of Dating My Best Friend’s Sister. Holden and Laney were well-developed, endearing characters with a fantastic backstory and rich history. Combustible chemistry, heart-string-pulling emotion, well-timed and witty banter, and the slow-burn build-up to a steamy romance made this an unputdownable page-turner. A must-read for all Keeland and Ward fans, this was a seriously sweet, smoking hot and totally swoon-worthy romance. EXCERPT:

“What the hell?” He stood on the other side of the door. “Where’s the doorknob?”

I leaned down and spoke through the hole where the knob used to be.

“It’s in here with me. The lock jammed, and the knob came off in my hands when I tried to pull it open.”

“Alright. Give me a minute. I need to run next door to get a screwdriver.”

“I have one now! I picked it up after the beeping incident, so I wouldn’t need to bug you again. It’s in the top drawer in the kitchen!”

“Okay, great. Hang on.”

Two minutes later, the door popped open. It wasn’t until I saw Holden’s face that I remembered I was only wearing a tank top and underwear, sans bra.

He gulped and took a long look before turning his head. “Sorry. I didn’t realize you weren’t dressed.”

I wasn’t the only one scantily clad. Holden had on only a pair of boxer briefs, his beautiful tanned skin and carved six pack on full display for my eager eyes, yet again. I couldn’t stop myself from staring. Silence ticked by until Holden turned his head back, probably to see why I’d grown quiet. “You oka—”

My eyes rose to meet his, but not before he’d caught me ogling him.
I shook my head and laughed nervously. “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to stare. I just hadn’t expected you to be in your underwear either, I guess. It caught me off guard.”

Holden ran a hand through his hair. “Yeah, I’m sorry if I checked you out, too.”

I should’ve just left the bathroom and covered up with a robe, but something about being near this man made me say and do things that were completely out of character. “Would you mind if I…looked a little more?”

Holden’s brows shot up to his hairline. “You want to check me out?”

My face heated. I shook my head and looked down. “Oh my gosh. I’m so embarrassed. I think the lack of sleep and stress from being locked in here made me a little bonkers. It’s just that maybe we both have some pent-up curiosity about what we look like as adults. I mean, I’ve only stolen glimpses of you without a shirt on since we were teenagers in my backyard pool. And you certainly haven’t seen me in a skimpy bottom and no bra since then. I guess I was thinking if we took a good, long look, once and for all, we might get it out of our systems.”

Holden stared at me. I could see the wheels in his head spinning. Eventually, his eyes dropped to my chest. “You have no bra on…”

I shook my head. “No bra.”

He swallowed. “Let’s do it.”

“Really?”

He nodded. “Fuck yeah. I’m going to hell anyway. Might as well enjoy the ride down. But you have to stay in the bathroom, and I’ll stay on this side of the doorway.”

“Okay.” I bit my bottom lip. “You look first.”

“Why don’t we look at the same time?”

I nodded. “Good idea. How long should we do it for?”

Holden shrugged. “A minute?”

“Do you have your phone?”

“No. I thought someone broke in and you were being attacked. My phone was the last thing on my mind.”

“Mine should be on the coffee table. Do you want to grab it so we can use the timer?”

Holden walked away and came back ten seconds later. “What’s your code?”

“Zero, seven, one, three.”

He started to type and then froze before looking up at the ceiling.

“That’s the day you’re getting married, isn’t it?”

I nodded.

Holden cursed as he went back to typing. “I’m so fucking going to hell.”

He called up the clock app and then turned the phone to show me. The countdown was set for one minute. His finger hovered over the green button. “You ready?”

I nodded.

Holden pressed the button, and we began to openly ogle each other.

EXCERPT:

Chapter One

The Last One

Standing in the doorway staring at a dead woman, Zachariah Lazarus knew this case was going to be his last.

He’d lost his wife to this.

He couldn’t drop everything, fly five hours, drive for two and a half, stand in the doorway of a room and assume responsibility for another lost soul.

He’d see to her. If he caught a break, he’d find the twisted mess of a human being who was behind it, and he’d put him out of commission. If he didn’t, he’d uncover everything he could and leave it for the next guy to use when he stood in a door and stared at a life ended in a grim and tragic way, hoping like hell he’d catch a break.

But Rus was done.

He was heavy with this shit. Struggling to breathe under a boulder he carried, which grew bigger and bigger, threatening to crush him.

He took a single step into the room, fighting against that weight he’d carried for years but only started feeling the day he signed his divorce papers.

The room was cold, incredibly cold. They’d jacked the AC way up to take care of her. It was probably another reason the owner was impatient to get her out of there.

She was lying in a cradle of plastic sheeting, like the other seven had been.

Her back was to the door, just like the others.

She was arranged in a position of sleeping, on her side, one leg hitched and resting on the bunched plastic tucked around her, arms cocked, hands tucked under her cheek.

She’d been anally raped, he could tell by the blood. Rus knew from experience she’d likely also been vaginally raped.

The back of her head had been bludgeoned, her long blonde hair matted and mingled with the color of rust, the stained ivory of jagged pieces of skull and the gore of exposed brain matter showing through the strands.

He’d spoken to his team on the drive there. They’d come and gone and were queuing up evidence to process what they’d found.

At that moment, the local sheriff and two of his deputies were outside, the sheriff not three feet behind him, the deputies trying to calm an irate motel owner who wanted the body removed.

He was going to have to put up with crime scene tape, but cruisers and an active investigation fucked with his ability to rent rooms.

This was too bad, since the man needed the money so he could put some fucking cameras in his reception and parking lot. Perhaps he hadn’t already because their presence made his current clientele nervous, but this meant the zero evidence Rus knew his suspect left behind added to the zero video footage would leave Rus and this woman with less than zero to go on.

She’d been there since discovery by the motel’s maid yesterday morning. She was still there due to the fact the MO was highly publicized, and the call needed to be made that would put Rus on a plane.

This boded well for the start of the investigation. It said the locals weren’t going to mess around.

They didn’t try to take lead. They didn’t start an investigation they weren’t going to be able to finish. They made the call. Rus arranged for agents in the Seattle division to head out and process the scene, gave the locals his ETA and asked that the scene was secured, nothing disturbed, so he could see her as she was left.

Precisely as she was left.

Great emotion put a stamp on a space.

Stand in the doorway after a child’s birthday party, you could feel the joy even if you didn’t see the mess left behind or smell the residue of frosting. Stand in the doorway of a crime scene, you could feel the suffering.

He normally let it wash over him like this, taking on the added weight of that despair, smelling the residue of misery.

He stood in that doorway longer, though, and not because she was going to be his last one.

He couldn’t put his finger on why, something was just…

Off.

REVIEW:

Kristen Ashley takes readers back to the sleepy mountain town of Misted Pines with the second installment of the Misted Pines series of romantic thrillers. Fair warning to readers that this story contains graphic content that may be triggering to some readers. The Girl in the Woods features FBI agent Zachariah ‘Rus’ Lazarus, who’s in town investigating a murder that may be related to the serial killer case he’s working.  Lucinda ‘Cin’ Bonner, owns a burlesque club and is boss of the victim in Rus’s case.

I really don’t want to give away a lot of spoilers, so I’m going to focus on what I really loved about this book. I loved Rus and Cin. Both of them were those quintessential KA main characters readers love from her, with Rus in all his alpha-male glory and the smart, sassy, independent heroine, Cin. I loved that this wasn’t the first time around the block for either Rus or Cin. Mature couples have some relationship experiences under their belts. They know exactly what they want, and they know how to ask for it, in bed and out of it. I really liked both Rus and Cin’s personal backstories which added wonderful dimension to the development of these characters. I loved their families and all the secondary characters. But hands down, the utterly enthralling, thoroughly engaging plot was what I loved most about this story.

The Girl in the Woods was a refreshing change-of-pace for this avowed contemporary romance and romcom reader, and I’m hopeful that KA will take me back to Misted Pines at some point. A thrilling story bursting with anticipation and passion coupled with a fast-paced plot and a smoking-hot mature romance kept me furiously tapping my Kindle. A brilliantly told romantic thriller with all the nostalgic feels that I love about KA’s storytelling, but in a fresh, new setting with interesting, new characters. Hair-raising suspense and scorching-hot chemistry between a mature couple made this a story that grabbed my attention from the first page and held it captive the whole way through. Five smooches from me for The Girl in the Woods  by Kristen Ashley!

From New York Times & Wall Street Journal bestselling author Aurora Rose Reynolds comes a brand new romantic comedy about a girl who understands how short life is, and a man who quickly learns there are things way more important than money.

I had no idea that taking a temp job for the summer would send my life into a tailspin, but that’s exactly what happened when I started working for Jace Ellis.

One day I was his secretary and the next I was sitting on his private plane, wearing an obnoxiously large engagement ring, after he asked me if I would pretend to be his fiancé for one week.

I can admit that greed got the best of me. But the money he offered in exchange for my lie would help not only me, but my mom out tremendously.

I just had no idea what I was actually getting myself into.

I didn’t think about the fact that we would be sharing a bed, that we would have to pretend to like each other, and I sure didn’t know that I would be surrounded by his entire family at their annual family reunion.

But if the guy want’s a fiancé, I’m going to be the best one he’ll ever have.

I just hope I can remember that this isn’t forever; it’s for never.

EXCERPT:

“I hope this works for you two.” Janelle ushers me into the room that has a bed smaller than my queen-size back home, and my knees shake as I realize what’s happening. “There are a couple of extra pillows upstairs. I’ll grab those for you before bed tonight.” Janelle wanders to the bedside table, flipping on the lamp there. “And you just let me know if you want an extra blanket or two. Are you all right? You’re looking a little pale, sweetheart.”

Blinking, I focus on Janelle’s face that is suddenly right in front of mine. “Yeah.” I shake my head. “I’m fine, totally fine. This is great! So, so, so great. I don’t think it could get any wors— I mean better,” I correct myself quickly. “I don’t think this could get any better.”

“Well, okay, great.” She looks around the room, then waves out her hand. “That’s the closet. There are a few hangers, but let me know if you need more.” She points at another door. “The bathroom is through that door. Jace’s grandma will be sharing it with you two when she gets here this evening, so make sure you lock it when you’re in the shower, since the rooms connect.”

“Lock the door—got it.” I nod, then look at Jace when he steps into the room.

“Everything okay?” he asks, coming to where I’m standing and placing his hand against my lower back, the warmth of his palm seeping through my hoodie and tank top.

“Great, your mom was just showing me around our room.” I turn to the side, forcing him to stop touching me.

“Thanks, Mom,” he tells her, not seeming even a little surprised he and I will be sharing a bed for an entire week. Then again, why would he be? If I actually thought about it, I could have guessed that’s how things would be. I mean, it’s not like many parents nowadays would force their kids to sleep separately from whoever it is they’re dating until they’re married.

Damn, those really were the good ol’ days.
