REVIEW:

Lacey Black’s small town romances are some of my favorite stories to read, and I am absolutely loving her Burgers and Brew Crüe series about a group of college buddies who own a gourmet burger and brew pub slash busy bar in Stewart Grove, Ohio. What’s It Gonna Take is book five in the series, and it’s an absolutely unputdownable friends-to-lovers, workplace romance that sizzles deliciously.

I really adore this group of friends. What’s It Gonna Take focuses on Garreth, the bar manager, and the woman he’s been crushing on forever, Reagan. I loved Garreth and Reagan so much. On the heels of a horrible break-up, Reagan is finally available, Garreth is finally available, but Garreth has a hard and fast rule of not dating co-workers. He’s working overtime to quash his crush, but Reagan is working just as hard to get his attention. I loved the will-they-or-won’t-they, push and pull dynamic between them, and their flirty bantering was the kind that leaves sparks in its wake.

I was hooked and rooting for Garreth and Reagan from the moment I started What’s It Gonna Take. Garreth was such a swoon-worthy hero, and Reagan was feisty and fiery. This was such sweet and sexy romance, light on the angsty, emotional drama, but full of heart, heat and humor. Black has created a fun world in this small town Ohio pub, and y the hilariously endearing characters in Stewart Grove have completely charmed me. Five smooches from me for What’s It Gonna Take by Lacey Black!

“There’s a lot to talk about. If you’ve got to get back to work, then tonight. What do you say? Dinner?”

Her arms cinched tighter across her chest and she started walking again. “No. I don’t think that’s a good idea.”

“Why not?”

“Because I don’t want to see you, Foster. I don’t want you in my town.”

“Too late.”

Shit. I’d always loved Talia’s steady nature. When others would panic, she’d stay calm. It was part of the reason I’d known she’d make an incredible doctor. But every now and then, she’d get mad. And when someone pushed the right buttons, Talia Eden had a temper unmatched.

So before it blew and I really pissed her off, I changed the subject.

“There’s a lot to be done to fix this place up. That orange wall has got to go. But I think the building itself will work. I’m going to set the ring up here.” Marking an outline in the dust, I walked a square in the center of the floor, then pointed around the room as I spoke. “I’ll put mats in that corner. “You can’t be serious about this.”

I’ve been captivated by Devney Perry’s storytelling since the first book of hers I read. An enthralling blend of angsty emotion, palpable passion and edge-of-your-seat suspense, her stories never fail to capture my attention. From the small town backdrops and endearingly down-to-earth characters, her books are as much a love letter to Montana as they are love stories, and through her words and descriptions, I’ve managed to fall for this state without ever stepping a foot in it.

Set in quaint Quincy, Montana and based around the Eden family, Quincy town royalty, Garnet Flats is the third book in the series. Foster and Talia’s second chance romance pulled on every single one of my heart strings. Theirs was a  story of young love gone horribly awry and tainted by manipulation. Foster, a famous UFC fighter, and Talia, met years earlier when they both lived in Vegas. They fell hard and fast, but some youthful misjudgment set the course for the derailing of their relationship. Seven years later, Foster relocates to Quincy to finally set the record straight and give her the truth of what really happened all those years ago in the hopes of winning her back.

Garnet Flats was a gorgeous story jammed packed full of feels, and I felt every bit of the desperation, regret, anger, betrayal, longing, love, hope that they felt. Foster and Talia had much to overcome, between coming to terms with what happened to them and rebuilding trust, and Perry took readers on their twisting, turning, tumultuous journey in breathtaking, heartbreaking detail. A mistaken identity, workplace romance, Baller Boss by Lila Monroe was a quick, devour-it-in-a-day pleasure read. Lila, best known for being the queen of the romcom, dished up a light-hearted sexy romance that was heavy on the comedy, high on the heat and an absolute pleasure to read.

Austin, a billionaire former professional athlete turned businessman, is looking to get his latest business venture off the ground, and he needs a marketing whiz. The recruiter he hired to help him fill this position knows just the person—Jennifer Walker, social media darling and marketing genius. The only problem is that the recruiter reached out to the wrong Jennifer Walker. Currently blacklisted in her field, Jennifer gets a call from a recruiter for the job of a lifetime. Realizing that she wasn’t the person they thought she was, she still can’t help but want this job. From their first meet-cute to all their witty back and forth bantering and their off-the-charts chemistry, Austin and Jenn’s relationship sizzled. Baller Boss was such an easy-to-read, entertaining story and one of my favorites of the Billionaire Bachelors series. Plenty of endearing side characters, a sweet and sexy romance, and one of Lila’s amusing trope-tastic storylines, this was a very cute and charming romcom that kept a smile on my face the whole way through. Baller Boss by Lila Monroe gets 4.5 smooches from me!

His laughter sparked my own. “Absolutely.”

“I won’t get another reminder not to develop feelings?” Just because I could see myself with someone like Lucas long term didn’t mean I needed to be treated as thought I didn’t understand the limitations of this arrangement.

“Depends on whether I need to worry about it or not.”
