When You Make It Home by Claire Ashby Release Blitz and Giveaway

“Quirky, sexy and heartwarming – a story of
love, forgiveness and what it means to be a family.”
~ Kate Moretti, New York Times bestselling author of Thought I Knew You

Meg Michaels, a bookstore owner,
has already walked away from two cheating exes. She’s learned her lesson and
has her mind set on success—until she gets knocked up. Embarrassed and
unwilling to discuss her situation with friends and family, she wears layers to
hide the pregnancy.

When Meg gets sick
at a party, she’s mortified. Even worse, Theo Taylor, the guest of honor,
discovers her secret. Theo, an Army
medic wounded in the war, agrees not to reveal her condition, and the two forge
a bond of friendship that blossoms into love.

Theo is soon filling all of Meg’s late-night cravings—and not
just the pregnancy-induced ones. But can their love overcome all the obstacles that stand between them and creating a happy family?

Chapter One
I first caught sight of Theo at his
welcome home party. A mob shifted around him, jockeying for a position next to
the guest of honor. I lingered near the door to the living room and listened to
the joyful words and murmur of good wishes directed toward him.
Someone whispered, “… lucky to be
alive.”
The doorbell rang and crowd parted. For
a moment, he stood alone. Tears burned the backs of my eyes. I couldn’t see the
luck in what was left of him.
Ellie pinched my arm. “Don’t stare,”
she said on her way to the door.
I bit my lip, turning away. But my
attention found its way back to him, and I sneaked another look at his arms, surveying
the road map of scars trailing away from bandages. My gaze traveled to his
face, and I gasped. Theo glared at me with defiant hazel eyes, as if to say, Go ahead and look all you want; I can take
it.
I knew he’d lived through much worse than I had and that my own
problems paled in comparison with his. I could use some of his strength. But,
of course, I couldn’t tell him that.
“What’s wrong with you?” Ellie
hissed, using the same voice as when she caught me eating the cookies meant for
story time at our bookstore.
She steered me into the dining room,
and once she had me cornered, she snatched a box of tissues and pushed them at
me. “Get control of your hormones. We already went over this. If you want to
keep your secret, you can’t get all teary eyed.
“I know.” I blinked rapidly, waving
the tissues away. “I’m not crying. I’m sorry. I don’t know what’s wrong with
me.” I pressed my lips together, trying to clamp down on the list my brain
rattled off. I had plenty wrong with me. But a party wasn’t the time for a self-directed
lashing. I could save that for home, after I dispensed a generous share of
support to my best friend, who was desperate to give her brother-in-law the
hero’s welcome he deserved.
Ellie hugged me, and the tension
between us evaporated.
“Don’t let Theo see you looking at
him with those weepy eyes. He gets pissed whenever anyone shows him an ounce of
sympathy.”
“Deal. But I wish we could do
something for him.” I hadn’t meant to gawk at the guy.
With all the progress updates Ellie
had shared with me, I knew far too many details about his surgeries and
struggles. Theo often woke up screaming, but no one said whether his cries came
from pain or nightmares. That knowledge haunted me until my overactive
imagination filled in the blanks. I knew too much about the man, and I’d never
met him before today. Worse, all I could do about it was put on a happy face.
I stepped back and reached out to
touch the soft cotton of Ellie’s new yellow dress. “You look fantastic.” The fabric
hugged the curve of her belly, erasing any doubt she was pregnant and not just
packing on the pounds.
“Thanks.” She scanned the crowd.
“Jake got back late last night,” she whispered. “He picked Theo up at the rehab
facility and brought him to their mom’s house.” The lines around Ellie’s mouth
deepened. “Jake offered to let Theo stay here, but fortunately, their mom
didn’t like that at all. Jake’s optimistic, but I never met Theo before he
deployed, you know? I wish I had.” Ellie rubbed her belly. “Theo’s quiet.”
The doorbell chimed, and Ellie
hurried off. I used the chance to slip into the bathroom.
I flipped the exhaust-fan switch and sighed
with relief that the hum muffled the noise of the partygoers. With trembling
hands, I turned on the cold water and let the icy stream rush over the insides
of my wrists. I took a deep breath and checked my clothes in the mirror.
My new Marc Jacobs jacket covered
the basic black T-shirt that hid a waist-contouring camisole. Skinny jeans and
burgundy, open-toed heels completed my look. Almost anywhere else in the
country, my outfit would’ve been perfect for a casual spring evening.
But not in Texas.
Early May, and the temperatures had
already soared into the mid-90s. To make matters worse, my jeans fit tighter
than they had the week before. I’d expected they would loosen after I wore them
awhile. At least the cut of the jacket hid my growing belly. My secret is
safe for another day
.
I licked my lips and swallowed the
lump in my throat before rejoining the party. The chatter and laughter had
risen to competitive levels. I couldn’t face trying to fit in, and I fell back
into a trance. Theo fumbled around Ellie’s living room, gripping his crutches.
One of his arms was heavily bandaged, and he had a thick square of white gauze
taped below his ear. But what sent a shiver through me was the sight of his leg.
He had only one.
“Come on. I’ll introduce you,” Ellie
said from behind me. She hooked her arm through mine and pulled me along.
“Theo, this is my friend, Meg Michaels.”
“Hello.” He gave a slight nod,
shifting on his crutches to extend his hand to me.
Despite the fact that I’d had my
eyes on him for most of the last half hour, I’d failed to notice his
hit-the-pause-button good looks. Theo’s injuries drew attention away from his
athletic build, but there was no hiding the tall, rock-solid composure. Close-cropped
dark hair added to his dangerous edge. But when his full lips lifted into a
smile, I could barely stand still at the unexpected warmth that surged through
me. That surge skidded to a halt when his brooding eyes locked onto mine.
Theo cleared his throat.
I reached for his hand. “It’s a
pleasure to meet you.” Did he have any idea how much I already knew about him?
My face heated, and I felt like a big dummy while he appraised me as though he
had all day. Ellie had disappeared, and I didn’t know the proper protocol for
socializing with a man I inexplicably felt intimidated by. Not that Theo seemed
to mind.
He appeared all too comfortable with
silence, but I needed to speak, if he wasn’t going to. So I wouldn’t have to
yell over the noise of the party, I leaned into him, despite the fluttering in
my chest that made it hard to inhale. “Would you…” Background music and clatter
from the growing crowd swallowed my words.
He angled in closer. “What?”
I kept my eyes on his, refusing to
glance at any other part of him. “Can I get you something to drink? Do you need
anything?” I cringed at my voice—too pitchy, too polite.
He shook his head and looked past
me.
I mumbled an excuse about helping
out with dinner, stepped away from him, and fled to the back of the house.
Melinda, Ellie’s mother-in-law,
darted around the kitchen, yanking covered casserole dishes from the fridge and
shoving them in a row along the counter. How had Theo and Jake come from such a
trim little woman? Her white hair fell in waves around her flushed cheeks.
“Hey there.” I huffed shallow
breaths to fend off the strong aroma of browned butter. My stomach clenched.
“Hi Meg.” Melinda’s puffy, dark-ringed
eyes surveyed the spread in front of her.
“You’re doing an amazing job, but
don’t you want to go sit with Theo?” I wrapped my arm over her shoulders,
giving her a squeeze, suddenly aware that no one was looking after her needs. I
wasn’t qualified for that job; mothers were not my thing. “Tell me what to do.
I’m here to help.”
“Why did I insist Jake and Ellie
give Theo a party?” Her voice cracked and her lip trembled, but she continued
to work, tearing foil off macaroni and cheese, baked beans, and corn on the
cob. “Theo used to be so popular. He always wanted his friends around—they were
all so wild—but only a few of them replied to the invitation.” She slammed her
hands down on the table and lowered her head. Her pale-blue eyes were wet and
red rimmed, but she held back her tears.
“It’s okay. He’s going to be fine,”
I promised, even though I had no clue if that were true. “He’s not alone. There
are tons of people out there. Ellie invited the staff from the bookstore, and
Jake has plenty of wild friends.”
Melinda turned to me, nodding.
“You’re right. You know, I accepted what Theo had been through… how he had
changed. But that was at the hospital and at rehab where he was surrounded with
guys he could relate to, people who were going through the same thing he was.
It’s different here.” She blinked, and tears slipped in two straight lines down
her face. “Every time I look at a young man I think: Theo should be like that.
He shouldn’t have to go through this. It’s not fair.”
“It’s not, and I’m so sorry.” I
moved to hug her, but she wiped at her face and turned away from me.
“It’s okay. I’m fine.” She cleared
her throat and squared her shoulders. “Theo needs to eat. He has to keep his
energy up. Can you man the grill? I can’t do the burgers and do this.”
“Trust me, no one wants me in charge
of the grill, but I’ll go find Jake. Are you sure you’re okay?”
She yanked open the silverware
drawer and rummaged around, pulling out a collection of serving spoons. “I am.
Thank you, Meg.”
I ducked out of the kitchen, wiggled
my way around the thirty or so people in the living room, dodged conversations
with friends, and found Jake and Ellie whispering together near the front door.
Jake’s hand rested on Ellie’s belly, an image I’d seen many times, but today I
had to look away.
Watching
Jake and Ellie highlighted the loneliness of my pregnancy. I could almost long
for Bradley’s return, but since he disliked
public displays of affection, I
doubted he’d be much of a tummy toucher. I had called off our wedding four
months earlier, partly because of his business trips. At first, he’d leave me
for a few days or a week at a time. But as his weeks away piled up on each
other, that feeling of a shared life fractured. The longer he stayed away, the
less we connected when he came home.
Especially once I found out he had
plenty of time to spend in the company of another woman.
“Hey, break it up guys,” I said.
“Jake, your mom wants you at the grill.”
As he walked by, he patted me on the
shoulder, in on my little secret. When one’s best friend gets married, one
learns that even the most classified information is going to echo off an extra
set of ears. I loved Jake, though, so I was okay with it. Ellie’s man was
loyal. I’d trusted him even before she did and had convinced her that she was
going to lose a good one if she didn’t give in to love. In the first year of
her marriage, Ellie was already four-and-a-half months pregnant.
That was the best part of my
mistake. While I might have gotten my single self knocked up, at least my
lifelong best friend and soul sister was preggers, too.
“Hey, little momma.” Ellie rubbed
her belly, smiling deliberately at mine.
“Shush!” I looked over my shoulder
and stuffed my hands in my jacket pockets. “Don’t say that.” I’ve never been a
self-conscious person, but since my flat abs had exploded into a telltale pooch
two weeks before, I’d been nearly hysterical, feeling as if I were wearing one
of those “Baby on Board” T-shirts with a big arrow pointing down.
“Sorry, Meg. I just know everything
is going to work out for you.” The warmth in Ellie’s voice triggered a lump in
my throat. “Besides, you’ve always got me to lean on.” She squeezed my shoulder.
Scanning the faces in the room, I
struggled to breathe. How many of those people thought they knew all about me? I
took a step back, but there was no escaping the pressure that rolled over me
like a wave pulling me under.
My stomach churned under the
unrelenting fear of discovery and the weight of choices before me. The smell of
beef cooking on the grill didn’t help. Rising bile in the back of my throat
overwhelmed the familiar metallic taste.
“You don’t look good.” Ellie came to
my rescue, as always. “Why don’t you lie down in my room for a while? I’ll
cover for you.”
“Are you sure? I’m supposed to be
helping you.” I took a deep breath, determined to pull myself together, but
prickling sweat popped out on my brow.
“Let’s go.” Ellie put her arm around
my waist and led me away from the crowd. I looked over my shoulder. Theo was
eating from a plate on a TV tray, carefully chewing each bite. Melinda sat next
to him looking calm and composed.
After Ellie left, I kicked off my
heels and hung my jacket and T-shirt over the chair of her antique vanity in
the far corner of the room. The ceiling fan, set to low, spun in lazy circles.
I lifted my hair in a twist and looked down at my body. The camisole that used
to conceal my belly accentuated the protruding bump. I couldn’t deny the
obvious.
There was a baby onboard.
I tugged the hem of my camisole up
over my bump and tucked it under my swollen breasts. The snug top stayed where
I’d left it. I couldn’t believe someone was in there. Before, every choice I’d
ever made was calculated. A few random decisions had changed everything.
The bedroom door banged open, and I
jumped, expecting Jake or Ellie. Instead, Theo lumbered in on his crutches and
slammed the door behind him.
“Excuse me, do you mind?” I tugged
my top in place to cover myself, but Theo’s gaze took in my bare skin. He
watched my movements closely and locked the door. For some reason I flushed and
grew warmer as he came closer to the bed. Could
he want to trap me?
Of course, the thought was ridiculous. I was pretty
sure my small, five-foot-five-inch, exhausted, knocked-up self could plow
through a one-legged boy covered in bandages if I wanted to get out of there
badly enough. The thing was—I wanted to stay.
“Give me a break.” He hobbled to the
king-size bed without looking at me then propped his crutches against the wall before
falling back onto the mattress. “You think you can hide in here all by
yourself?” He hauled what was left of the lower half of his body onto the bed.
A flash of pain crossed his bronzed face. Closing his eyes, he lay back on the
striped navy sham. He ran his good hand through spiky hair the same tawny brown
as the week-old scruff on his face. “Hit the light on your way out,” he barked.
“Hey, I was here first, and I was
just about to rest there. Ellie told me I could.” I smacked a hand over my
mouth. “Wait… I’m sorry. That was rude.”
Theo lifted his head off the pillow,
squinting from the overhead light. He peered at me in a slow, thorough
inspection that left me fighting not to squirm.
“Well, Jake told me I could crash
here. Turn off the light and come on.” He patted the bed next to him. “Forgive
me—I didn’t see that you are with child.” He rolled his eyes.
The breath shot out of my lungs, and
I wrapped my arms around my stomach as if I could hide the truth. “Stop looking
at me,” I said, making my way to the light switch.
Although he’d draped his tan,
muscular arm across his forehead, I sensed his eyes tracking me. I pictured my
belly growing with each step, the truth transparent. I switched off the lights.
The sun was on the other side of the house, and fading afternoon light glowed
in the room. I went back around the bed and paused, not sure I really wanted to
get in with this hostile-looking guy who had spent recent years surrounded by
sand and weapons.
Theo glared sideways at me. “Don’t
flatter yourself. I’m not about to make a move on some pregnant chick. Either
get in or get out—I don’t care.”
My mouth fell open. “Oh… you think I
think…” My voice quivered, so I stopped and tried another tactic. “I don’t…”
More quivers. I forced out the only response I could manage. “Whatever.” I
snatched my heels off the floor, ready to go home.
“Wait. What are you doing?” Theo
scrubbed his hand over his face. “Don’t go.” His tone softened. “I shouldn’t be
alone right now.” He was giving me those big, puppy-dog eyes, but I could see his
smirk.
“What? Now you want me to stay?” No
more quivering. The words flowed when the focus was on him. “What’s with you?” I
itched to make a run for it, but even so, he intrigued me.
“Cut a guy some slack, will you? My
social graces are rusty.”
“Oh, please! I’ve been warned not to
give you anything that might resemble sympathy.”
“I don’t want your pity.” A spark
flared in his eyes. “Are you always this sassy, or is your condition playing
with your hormones?” He had a full-on grin, his white teeth gleaming.
His audacity got the best of me.
“Shut up, or I’m going to take your crutches when I leave.”
My threat only made Theo roar with
laughter, infuriating me more.
“You’re a bad girl, teasing a
hurt man. Just get in bed—you look tired. I’ll leave, if you really want me to.”
I gave in because he was right: I
was worn out. “No, don’t go.” I dropped my shoes, went to the bed, pulled back
the covers, and climbed in, staying as far away from him as I comfortably
could. “Let’s call a truce. I’ll stay over here, you stay over there.” I
settled the plush bedding around me and rolled over to face his direction. The
visible side of his body was flawless.
“Fine, but you better not snore or
I’m going to flatten a pillow over your head.”
I stifled a giggle. “You’re not at
all what I expected.”
He jerked his head toward me, eyeing
me suspiciously. “What did you expect?”
“I just thought a war hero would be
nice.” I yawned.
“I’m not nice enough for you?” His
voice, low and smooth, did nothing to hide his amusement.
I relaxed, sinking in the mattress.
“No, you’re a total asshole.”
The bed shook with his laughter.
“Well, at least you’re honest, but don’t call me a hero.”
I heard the smile in his tone, but
my eyes were closed. I really should have
just stayed in bed today
, I thought, drifting off to sleep.
***
My eyes were open before I realized
I was awake. Theo, bathed in moonlight, lay stretched out on top of the covers
next to me.
“You don’t have a ring on.” He
searched my eyes.
“I gave it back when I cancelled the
wedding. Bradley wanted me to keep it…” I looked at my bare hand in the dim
room. My ring finger felt naked without the karat-and-a-half, princess-cut
diamond. Sometimes I still caught myself rubbing the area, searching for the
phantom ring. “But I couldn’t.”
“So what, you didn’t want a shotgun
wedding?”
“Wait. Bradley’s not the father.” I
cringed as soon as the words left my mouth.
His eyes twinkled in the moonlight,
and he grinned again.
“So you are a bad girl.”

“Kink is a visceral and yet tender love story that could only be written by the sensual pen of Nikki Sex. Darkly intoxicating and wickedly irresistible…” Autumn, Agents of Romance

“A sexy love story written mainly from the Dom’s point of view. Really fascinating and steamy HOT!” – I Love My Ereader

Review

Holy hotness and red cheeks! And dare I mention that both cheeks were red in this book! Kink carries on with the lives of Paul Jarman and Emily Malone after the book Fate. (I would suggest reading Fate prior to reading Kink) These two go head first into their romance and there is no hiding their sexuality. Can Emily and Paul work through their past and finally get what they both desire?

“Me, Paul Jarman, the man who fucks, but never even dates, wants a ‘re-lat-tion-ship.'”

Paul introduces Emily to his world of kink. And if that isn’t enough he also has a dark side he likes to call the Beast. While he is working towards having Emily embrace his BDSM lifestyle he has to learn to keep his Beast in check. There are great scenes of BDSM acts, yet Nikki Sex weaves in the romance of Paul and Emily. I did feel at times, that Paul did get absorbed in having all the power and inflicted too much pain on Emily. It just made the character of Paul a ‘love to hate’ male in my book.

Very descriptive acts of BDSM are in Kink. I had a small problem with it in the beginning and had to adjust my perspective rather quickly. Their relationship can be described as a whirlwind. Emily and Paul consumed one another, both in the bedroom and in their everyday lives. These two work together, their families are oddly connected, and their club makes a comeback from the first book. Another element that made an appearance from Fate and I was extremely happy about was, André. I love his character and perhaps we can get more of his story in a new book *hint hint*. Take hot sexy time mixed with infidelity, insecurities, and trust issues and you get a great story by Nikki Sex.  4 smoldering smooches for Kink!

Review

Give Me Grace is the third book in the Give Me Series by Kate McCarthy.  I had this series recommended to me a while ago by my co-bloggertte, Nicole, and I have been madly stalking Kate’s facebook page waiting for Give Me Grace for what feels like forever.  The wait was well worth it!  I was blown away by Casey and Grace’s story.

I do not recommend reading these books as standalones.  This lovable blended group of security guys, rockers, models, and cops known as the Badass Brigade appear in all three books; their stories developing while their lives change.  So, while each book is about a different couple and their journey together, this series will be so much more enjoyable if you get to know the characters from the beginning, learning to love them way before their actual story is told.  Like Casey.  I loved him so hard and could not wait for his book.  So, read the books like this, because I said.

unnamed

Casey and Grace’s story is my favorite of the series now.  I knew I was absolutely going to adore Casey.  He is a man-whoring, sexy as sin damaged man, who is so unbelievably kind to his friends.  He makes you feel all mushy inside.  He is THAT perfect book boyfriend; all hot tempered and mean in one breath and then smolderingly sensual in the next.  And when Casey meets Grace, a friend and member of the Badass Bridgade’s sister, he has met his match.  Grace is Henry’s sister and has been modeling and travelling all over the world since the tender age of 15.  She is tough, feisty, and sassy; a personality to match her fiery red hair.  Immediately, you sense the attraction between these two.  They hilariously fight it, throwing insults at one another, but soon the physical attraction is just too much.  Commence the ridiculous and sexy flirting!

“This was sexting?  How did people survive it?”

They are just so cute, hot, and funny.  The problem is, Grace is returning to her home in eight weeks but her and Casey strike a deal.  Eight weeks of each other and then they say goodbye.  Casey starts to realize that he may want more than eight weeks with Grace, but Grace fights it because the truth is she has more than a booming modeling career waiting on her back home.  She has to go home to face a hard reality that she would never subject Casey too.  Grace will win you over with her courage and love for those around her; protecting them at all cost.

“People come and go, Casey.  Some crash into your life and leave in the blink of an eye, others stay with you for years, but it doesn’t matter how long you have them for, because the way they make you feel stays with you forever.”

Casey also has his secrets and a tragic past to top that off.  A past that has left him hiding him true self and wanting to save the world.  I found myself mourning with Casey.  I was so incredibly sad for the hand life dealt little boy Casey.  Learning about Casey’s past only made me want his happily-ever-after even more.  He opens up to Grace giving her more of himself than anyone else.

“It’s okay to lose it, Casey.  Maybe you think I don’t see you, but I do.”

Casey and Grace seem to be magnets for trouble.  This book was chalk full of surfing accidents, fires, and car accidents.  All through this Casey wants nothing more than to protect Casey.  He can’t let the past repeat itself.

“Who do you think you are?  Batman?”

As with this whole series you will experience a beautifully written novel that will make you laugh and cry.  I really do love that Kate always has lots of action thrown in these books.  I especially loved this one because I felt like it opened a door to a whole new slew of characters I could grow to love.  (and perhaps another series, Kate..hint hint.)  This book was so special.  I literally could not put it down.  You will absolutely love Casey and Grace.

“Don’t you know?”  Grace looked at me, tired and pale, but happiness shone in her eyes.  “Casey’s my hero.”

 10529657_10154337035400414_57715625_n

Oh, and the ending.  It is a big one.  I could kiss and strangle Kate for it.  Now I am truly dying for the next book, Give Me Hell!

EXCERPT

I slipped out the front door, letting it softly click shut behind me. Casey was sitting in his car, staring straight ahead as I walked down the drive. Opening the car door, I slid inside and shut it. He didn’t acknowledge my presence, or even look at me at all. He simply shifted gears, and with a quick glance in his rearview mirror, pulled out onto the road.

I clicked my seat belt into place. “Casey?”

With a hard swallow, he shook his head, keeping his eyes on the road as we drove. Despite his controlled composure, his face was pale and tension surrounded him like an aura.

“Casey, you’re scaring me.”

“I’m sorry.” Our eyes met for a brief moment, the connection intense. Raw pain flickered in his eyes before it was quickly banked. “That’s the last thing I want to do.”

His palm slid over my bare thigh, riding upwards as he continued to drive. The touch sent arousal spiking through me, but not enough to override the concern.

“Where are we going?”

He shook his head as if he had no clue. After a moment, he replied, “I want to drive, but I don’t want to be alone. I want to be with you.”

My eyes fixed on his profile as he drove. The knuckles of his right hand were white on the steering wheel and his jaw tight. Something wasn’t right. In fact, something was very wrong. I slid my hand over his, my pulse racing when he flipped his palm over and grabbed hold.

“Casey?”

He glanced over at me.

“I want to be with you too.”

His answer was a squeeze of my hand before letting go.

We sat in silence as he drove. I stared at the dashboard, having no idea what to do or say or how to fix what was wrong.

“Are you okay?” I asked.

“Sure.” A smile came to his lips. It was forced because it never reached his eyes. “Just a bad day at work, you know?”

“No, I don’t know. Maybe you should tell me.”

The roads were eerily quiet when he pulled to a stop at a red light. “I don’t want to talk right now.” His hand fell on my thigh again, the calloused palm scraping my skin as it slipped upwards. Reaching between my thighs, he dragged my panties to the side and slipped his fingers inside, gently massaging my clit and dragging a moan from my throat. He leaned over, putting his mouth on my ear, his breathing coming harder and heavier.

“I want to fuck you, Grace. Not just tonight, but every night,” he professed, his fingers working me expertly. The red light turned green, but with no cars around, Casey ignored it. “Hard enough for it to hurt, so that when you leave, me fucking you is the only thing you can think about.”

I closed my eyes, my head falling back against the headrest. I wanted him to fuck me that hard. I wanted to feel him inside me even when he wasn’t there, but not like this. Not when he was using sex to mask a hurt so painful and deep I could feel the ache of it surrounding me until I felt suffocated.

“No,” I gasped.

He froze at the single word, his hand stilling instantly.

“There’s something wrong, Casey. I can feel it.”

His hand slipped out of my panties and I mourned the loss. “I don’t want to talk about it,” he snapped.

Tension bled into the car as he put it in gear and accelerated swiftly. My eyes burned. When we were good, it was wild and intense and consuming, but we always spiralled into such a hot mess. I wasn’t sure if Casey and I would ever find a happy medium.

Drawing a deep breath, I forced calm. “Maybe you should take me home.”

“No.”

My brows flew up. “No?”

“No.” He shook his head, his tone cold and harsh. “This was your deal, and now you want to turn it into some kind of relationship? That’s not what this is. This is about you and me and sex. So maybe you should spread your legs so we can both get what we want.”

Synopsis

When Willow Stone discovers that she is in competition with the exotic and worldly Molina for the coveted position of sex advice columnist, she realizes it’s time to up her game. Though she has impeccable writing skills, there’s no denying that a lifetime of being the good girl has left her ill prepared for this position. Realizing it’s her lack of experience that will keep her from achieving this dream, she decides to proposition the bad boy who once lived in her college dorm that always had a stream of women doing the walk of shame from his room on a nearly nightly basis. Surely someone that shallow, that experienced, and that wildly attractive could teach her a thing or twenty.

Only Wyatt has his own plans, and they don’t allow much time for teaching Willow what she would already know if she could just break free of the cool, calculating, proper demeanor that was part of being a Stone. His reputation has served him well through the years and being the black sheep of his family has never bothered him. What does, however, is Willow. She is a mystery to unravel, a present to be cherished, a young woman who just might rock his world by bringing him back into his family’s fold. “Where were we?”

“I think we had just established my sordid past and utter lack of experience,” I said sarcastically.

“Ah, yes,” he said as he tapped his finger on the counter. “Now, why is this experience so important to you?”

Confused, I tried to decide how to answer that. “I want this column so badly…” I shrugged. “It’s expected that I do something with my degree and fast. Stones aren’t burdens on society…” My voice trailed off.

“So, you are battling a lifetime of expectations and family lectures about your station in life?” He smirked. “I know a little something about that.”

Obviously, I let that go because…how could he possibly? Oh, but the house. “Who does the garage belong to…the one you live above?” Then I leaned over and waited patiently for a response.

“Ah, that inquiring mind. You don’t need a sex column; you need to be an investigative reporter.” He laughed. “Yeah, it’s my parents’.” He wiped down the bar before adding to it. “I’m an Evans.” Then he winked at me.

Apparently I was supposed to know what that meant and because of it, who he was. What I gathered was that it was like being a Stone. My heart went out to him. “So, you understand the dangers of not living up to expectations. Please understand, I don’t look at this column as anything more than a stepping stone in my career. I’m not sure where I want to take the degree, but I love writing. I love helping people. This meets all those criteria.”

For some reason, I didn’t want to see his face. I just wanted to think for a minute. He had struck a nerve. Why did I need that job? It would force me to stretch myself. There was something about a challenge. Then, there was sheer, utter, simple curiosity. I was the only one of my friends who was practically still a virgin. When we gathered together on holiday breaks, I was the one who never had a boyfriend, who never had sexcapades to relay, who sat back and tried to pretend to understand these foreign objects and experiences they talked about. I hated it. Then I smiled. As I stared in front of me, another piece of my phone had appeared.

“Can I see the list?” He asked seriously.

Shaking my head, I refused. “No. It’s too…humiliating.”

“Dammit woman, I can look it up online, but it’s just easier if you share the print copy. Okay?” He scowled at me for a moment. Then as I pushed the paper toward him, he smirked. After studying it for a moment, he looked up at me. “One night stand?”

“Nope. I knew them. It was a date. It just never went beyond that.” I stared at him evenly, trying not to give away any emotion.

“Did you like them?” He asked. “Either of them?”

Taking a deep breath, I said, “Not really. I just felt like…it was time. There wasn’t a crush, a bunch of love letters, phone calls, any of that. The first was prom. And for lack of a better defense, everyone was doing it.” I let out a hollow laugh. “The second, was a house party after graduation.”

“Drunk?” He asked, perplexed.

“No, but he was. This one was someone that my family approved of and had been pushing me toward for years. I just kind of gave in.” I sighed. “Does any of this make sense?”

“Honestly, no. I can’t understand how someone as beautiful as you could possibly think of settling for less than every single thing she deserved. Forget about your parents. What do you want?” He stood there, challenging me.

It was no longer about the phone, no longer about the game of Truth or Truth. I had to answer. We were really talking. “I’m not sure I know. I don’t know if my life has ever been about what I want.”

“What if we try to figure that out, together? And…what if I help you with this list?” He asked.

What will happen when the good girl gets mixed up with the bad boy?

Review

The good girl follows Willow and Wyatt as they work together to complete the sexual bucket list. Willow is the inexperienced girl that needs experience and knowledge in order to get a journalism job as a sex columnist and Wyatt comes across as the typical bad boy who loves them and leaves them. We learn that there is so much more to both of these characters.

Willow has been raised a certain way because of who her parents are, she is expected to behave a certain way and do things in the correct manner. At times you see the mask slip with her, especially when Wyatt is around. Wyatt helps Willow break down some of the barriers she puts up, he helps her be the person that she really is. Wyatt may seem like the bad boy, but he is actually a caring person who much like Willow wants to break away from the way that he is expected to behave.

Willow and Wyatt navigate their way through the list, giving Willow the insight that she needs to help her get the job. However neither of them accounted for the fact that staying together for the duration of the list would lead to feelings on either part. Wyatt seems to not be able to talk about his feelings, while Willow tries her best not to read too much into the situation between them.

Having some outside advice, can the two of them get their acts together and finally confess all? Or will they just continue to navigate the list and leave it as that? You will have to read this book to find out.

I really enjoyed getting to know Willow and Wyatt in this book, they have the relationship that goes from hardly knowing each other, to friends, to maybe more. Well done Emma Nichols on a brilliant read.

“You…amaze me. You really are a good girl. And I mean that in the best way.”

Tour: Road Tripping by Noelle Adams

Synopsis:

Ethan was Ashley’s secret crush, until he became an asshole.

Asshole is too good a word for him. It’s bad enough that he stopped talking to her brother, who was his best friend since preschool. It’s even worse that he went wild and got involved with criminal types. But the worst thing of all is the way he trapped her on this ridiculous road trip.

That’s what it is. Ridiculous. It just isn’t normal for a girl to get dragged from Virginia to South Dakota in a stolen car with just $1000 in cash. With Ethan Moore, who is way too hot and way too infuriating to be tolerated. But she’s stuck with him on a trip that is taking way longer than it should, sharing cheap hotel rooms, destroying cars, and eluding bad guys.

Yep. There are bad guys chasing them. Even worse guys than Ethan, and that’s saying a lot.

Plus, she’s having trouble keeping her hands off Ethan. In fact, she’s falling for him hard—when she isn’t wanting to wring his neck.

So, for two crazy weeks, her pride, her heart, and her life are all threatened. Ashley isn’t sure which she’ll lose first.

About the Author: Noelle handwrote her first romance novel in a spiral-bound notebook when she was twelve, and she hasn’t stopped writing since. She has lived in eight different states and currently resides in Virginia, where she teaches English, reads any book she can get her hands on, and offers tribute to a very spoiled cocker spaniel.

She loves travel, art, history, and ice cream. After spending far too many years of her life in graduate school, she has decided to reorient her priorities and focus on writing contemporary romances.

When he disconnected, Ashley had managed to catch her breath, the whole thing so surreal it didn’t seem to even be happening. “Well, you can just leave me at the next exit. Thank you for the excitement, and I wish you well in escaping your pursuers.”

“You have to stay with me for now,” Ethan said. Before Ashley could do anything more than drop her jaw, he continued. “At least until I figure out what’s going on. If you weren’t in danger, I would have just left you at the gas station. But they’ve seen you with me, so they might use you to get to me.”

“But this is Miss Horner’s truck.” She gulped, imagining possible scenarios. The last thing she wanted was to get poor Miss Horner in trouble. “What if they track her down, thinking she’s me? I can’t believe you got me into this mess.”

“It sure wasn’t by choice,” he muttered, glancing over at her in obvious frustration. “Do you think I want to be dragging you around with me?” Taking advantage of the fact that she was too furious to respond, he went on, “Miss Horner will be fine. One look at her, and they’ll know she wasn’t involved. I hate it as much as you do, but you’re safest with me.”

Ashley was about to let loose a long, impassioned tirade, but the scene in front of her distracted her attention. Ethan had gotten trapped behind a tour bus. The bus was in the passing lane trying to get by a semi-truck. Neither was moving very fast, and so the pickup was effectively caught with no way to pass either vehicle. The sedan was pulling up beside them. They were trapped.

Or should have been.

Ethan stepped on the gas and edged between the bus and semi-truck—right in between them—where there was clearly no lane in which to drive.

Ashley almost screamed, but bit her lip to stifle it. She squeezed her eyes shut, waiting for the inevitable crunch as the pickup was squished in between the two much larger vehicles.

It never came. The truck swerved over onto the shoulder. Both drivers were laying on their horns. But Ethan had pulled past them and now had a clear road in front of him.

The sedan didn’t have time to do a similar maneuver, so, after the truck moved back into its lane, the bad guys were still stuck behind the bus.

Even though she was supposed to be a good girl and not take pleasure in dare-devil stunts, Ashley clapped her hands in excitement. Ethan met her eyes, and they grinned at each other warmly before she remembered that she hated him.

She scowled when she recalled everything he’d done, and Ethan turned back to the road, accelerating until he was going well over the speed limit.

She was surprised Miss Horner’s truck could even reach that speed.

“So why are they chasing us again?” Ashley asked after several minutes of silence.

“They’re chasing me. You were just in the wrong place at the wrong time. And now you’re stuck.” Ethan took the first exit they approached. The sedan still wasn’t in sight, but Ethan was clearly nervous. He checked the rearview mirror every thirty seconds or so.

Ashley sighed. “They aren’t behind us now. Can’t you just drop me off at a gas station or something?”

“Too risky,” Ethan said, shaking his head. “Your purse flew off the hood when we drove away, so they’d be able to find your license, even if they don’t see you get out of the truck. If these guys are who I think they might be, they’re dangerous. I’m not going to leave you to their mercy. This is my fault.”

“That’s for sure,” Ashley mumbled, not quite under her breath. “It’s like a damned Jason Statham movie.”

“Just stick with me for a little while until I can figure this out. Do you despise me so much it’s worth risking your life for?”

Review

Ashley and Ethan have known each other for a long time, but when Ashley and her family think Ethan got her brother into trouble with the law, they no longer saw each other. Until one fateful day when they both happen to be at the same gas station, and Ethan’s trouble with the law catches up to him in the form of men chasing them and shooting at them. From here on out these two embark on a roller-coaster road trip, trying to escape from the people chasing them while also trying to fight their attraction for each other. Will they both succumb to their feelings? And will they escape the men chasing them?

“She has to admit that she didn’t really dislike Ethan after all. He might be infuriating sometimes, but she cared about him. A lot.”

This was an enjoyable story. The characters were really likeable and the plot was original and exciting. However I did think that maybe the story went on for too long so at some points it dragged and the ending seemed to be resolved really quickly considering how long the story and their problems go on for.

“No wonder she resented him. After spending all night in bed with her, he wouldn’t even extend to her the common courtesy of getting an erection.”

Characters- I loved both Ethan and Ashley. I felt for Ethan massively; I could feel how upset and lonely he felt because of what Ashley thought of him at the beginning and how he still looked after her and cared for her. He was strong, sensitive, brave, handsome and just a nice guy, especially when we find out what he did for Ashley’s brother.
Ashley was equally likeable. She was strong, she didn’t back down, she was brave and funny and someone I could relate to and be proud to call a heroine of the story.

“She was absolutely crazy about Ethan, and no one else had ever infuriated her more.”

Plot- the plot was original and exciting. Especially the scenes when the men caught up to them. During those times it was fast paced and I would read quicker and quicker wanting to know if they would escape again or get caught. However like I mentioned I did actually think this story was too long. There were times it dragged a little and I think a few scenes could have been cut out or made a little shorter. The ending also seemed to happen rather quickly, especially the talk with Ashley’s parents. The epilogue also wasn’t my favourite as I normally like to see the charters further ahead in their lives or in their relationships.

“I think I’ve always been in love with you. I can’t imagine life without you. You’re…you’re everything to me.”

Overall a really enjoyable story with a creative plot and likeable characters. This story will keep your attention and you will want to know how it all ends. I look forward to reading more from this author in the future.
